Sailor Moon R (Super Famicom)

The game had about the same kind of gameplay as Sailor Moon (Super Famicom), but with more options. The player could choose from any one of the Inner Senshi or Chibiusa, but if the latter was chosen, it unlocked three secret modes for two players. Chibiusa was the easiest character to play, since her attacks were faster, and she was so short that most of the enemies' attacks could not reach her.
The chosen character went through four big levels divided into two sub-levels. She then fought numerous Droids, mostly consisting of default Droids based on their manga version (almost all female-figured, apart from a short fat male-figured one who fought like the Youma GoroGoro in the previous game), Atsugessho, Furaiki, Dumble, and Avogadora. In later levels, several Jamanen could also be fought. Some of the Droids become much fiercer in the last levels, such as Furaiki, who gained the ability to jump and electrocute the playing character.
Pressing a special button made the character use a devastating attack that killed all lesser enemies on screen and caused significant damage to a boss character. Its use was, of course, limited.
Bonus items could be picked up from the ground, usually in the form of food items that replenished the life meter to varying degrees. A rose would give a new life if the life meter was full. A bowtie would give another chance to use the super attack. The playing character could also break down tables or crystals to get bonus items.
The levels and bosses (the leaders of the Black Moon Clan) were:
- T·A Academy for Girls's Culture Festival and in the night streets of Tokyo - The boss was Esmeraude. She was the least agressive of the bosses, but occasionally summoned two Droids without the player being able to interfere.
- A forest/jungle-themed park, with a ride on a raft - The boss was Saphir, who had a powerful multi-punch attack. The player could also defeat enemies on this level by making them fall into the water.
- Crystal Tokyo and the Crystal Palace - The boss was Rubeus, but in the same manner as Queen Beryl in the previous game, he stood in the background (showing the crystal coffin of Neo-Queen Serenity) looking at the player, who had to defeat the present Droids before being able to fight him. Rubeus moved slowly, but had agressive attacks. Droids would respawning as long as Rubeus was still standing.
- Nemesis - The boss was Prince Demande, and like Rubeus, he also stood in the background (which showed the Evil Black Crystal) looking at the player, who had to defeat the present Droids before fighting him. Demande floated in the air, moved faster than Rubeus, and had powerful attacks. The battle was even more difficult, as he had several Furaiki assisting him who continually respawned.
- It was also possible, in the main screen, to select "Battle" and then enter into a battle between two of the Sailor Senshi. If two-player mode was chosen and there was only one player, the opposing Senshi would not fight back.
- According to the official guidebook for the game, there was an option for a special two-player mode. To enter this, at the character select screen, the player would put the selecting cursor on "Chibiusa," press and hold L, R, and Select, and then press Start. This would bring up a secret menu that gave the player the option of two-player Chibiusa; "Nakayoshi" was a two-player mode that played to the end of the game and "2 player select" gave one of the Sailor Senshi as Player 1 and Chibiusa as Player 2. In other two-player modes, holding Select at the same time as Start allowed the use of the same character for both players, though Player 1 could select a different color of clothes when choosing by pressing X, B, or A.
