I originally don't think so, for the reason you've just mentioned. But lately we've items in other articles also linked to sources which have the Japanese translations, but nonetheless such translations are also attached to them in those articles, so I also added it here for consistency. I think it depends on the situation - if it's a mention of a Japanese term which is then linked to another site (like, off the top of my head, the article talking about kitsune), I have no problem with having the kanji for it.
