Usagi decides to enter a home-made wedding dress contest, while her home economics teacher is targeted by Nephrite.

Usagi and Naru discover that their home economics teacher, Akiyama, is about to get married. She plans to make her own dress, but as she searches for the right fabric, Nephrite is spying on her. Consulting the stars, he chooses her as his next victim.

Usagi and Rei see a promotion for a handmade wedding dress contest to be held at the Juuban Assembly Hall. The prize is a free wedding reception, redeemable whenever the winner gets married. Rei recalls that Usagi's mother is a full-time housewife, and asks to meet her. To her dismay, however, she learns that Usagi's mother is not good at sewing. Usagi also wants to enter, and asks Ami for help, but Ami simply gives her books on sewing.

Nephrite finds Akiyama at a fabric store, and infects her chosen fabric with one of his Youma. Later, Usagi goes to visit Akiyama for advice on dressmaking. She, Naru, and Luna see the teacher's fiance knock on the door, only to be greeted by a very different Akiyama. She has become obsessed with making her dress, and warns him to stay away until she has finished. While Usagi laments that her teacher appears to be entering the contest too, Luna worries that a dark force may be influencing her. She tells Ami and goes to the shrine to find Rei, but Rei is busy trying to steal the shrine's ceremonial wedding gown. She is thwarted, as is Usagi, who tries to steal her mother's curtains to make a dress.

The day of the contest comes, and neither Usagi nor Rei has managed to make a dress. Luna instructs Usagi to infiltrate the contestants using the Disguise Pen, but Akiyama is nowhere to be found. As the contest begins, Akiyama appears in her spectacular dress and hypnotizes the audience. Usagi manages to stay awake, as the teacher's energy peaks, releasing the Youma Widow from the dress. Usagi, Rei, and Ami all transform, but the Youma traps Sailor Moon in a stream of silk. Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars free her, then Sailor Moon destroys the creature, allowing Akiyama to return to normal.

Akiyama's wedding goes ahead as planned. Usagi, Rei, and Haruna fight to catch the bouquet, but the victor turns out to be an unsuspecting Ami.

Episode trivia[edit]

  • This episode shared some similarities with Act 5 of the manga.
  • When Higure Akiyama went to the dressmaker's shop, the sign read "DRESSMAKAR".
  • In the English dub, Serena stated that she "felt like a princess," an ironic allusion to the fact that she was a princess herself, though she was as yet unaware of it.
  • Also in the English dub, the contest prize of a free wedding reception was changed to a trip to Hawaii.
  • In the Brazilian dub, Widow was just called "Maligna" without being given a name, and when she revealed herself Serena talked to her as though they had met before.
