As the enemy's power grows stronger and threatens to overwhelm the Earth, Sailor Saturn appears, heralding the destruction of all things.

Summary

As the sky darkens, Sailor Moon calls out to Hotaru, but realizes it isn't really her, and wonders if that is a Daimon. Mugen Gakuen suddenly splits in half, and out of the ruins Kaolinite's reflecting pool rises, with the bodies of the four Inner Senshi held suspended over its surface. Sailor Moon tries to get closer, but an unseen force throws her back again.

In the meantime, a television reporter announces a state of emergency in the Delta, and tells all residents to evacuate and seek refuge immediately.

Mistress 9 declares that the time has come for Pharaoh 90 to assimilate the planet, and make it the new home of the Tau Nebula. The Outer Senshi look to the sea, the sky, and the ground, and realize that disaster is approaching; they each scatter and take up a position on tall buildings at each corner of the triangle in the center of the Delta. The three raise their Talismans in the air and, swearing to protect this world, join their powers to form a force field over the area.

Mistress 9 says that their efforts are useless, and notes that once her master has arrived, she will no longer need her human body. When she tries to leave it, however, she finds that she cannot; Hotaru's spirit clings to her firmly, and she declares that this is her body and she will not let the other free. No matter what else, she will protect Chibiusa and the Silver Crystal.

Sailor Moon attempts to use Moon Spiral Heart Attack, but Mistress 9 blocks the attack. She thinks that she needs more power, and looks at the Inner Senshi. A ball of light leaves each body and flies to Mistress 9, and Sailor Moon watches in horror as she devours the souls of the Sailor Senshi. Within the Daimon, however, Hotaru's spirit finds the lights of their souls and cradles them to her protectively. She thinks that there is something else inside of her, a stronger self which tells her to save everyone.

Light suddenly bursts free of Mistress 9, and the four souls return to their bodies. As the Inner Senshi open their eyes again, Sailor Moon's delight turns to surprise when she sees Hotaru's spirit hovering behind them. Hotaru smiles at them and then disappears once more.

Mamoru opens his eyes, realizing he dozed off, and goes to check on Chibiusa. As he does, he sees Hotaru's spirit hovering in the open window. Two lights emerge from her and float across the room; one joins with Chibiusa's body, and the other becomes the Silver Crystal. Chibiusa opens her eyes and sees Hotaru. Hotaru says she is happy she was able to save her friend, and says it must have been fate that they met.

Meanwhile, a monstrous creature rips free of Mistress 9's body, and Hotaru doubles over, clutching at her head. She smiles at Chibiusa, saying that she was glad they were able to be friends, and vanishes. Chibiusa cries out her friend's name, and begins to weep. Watching her, Mamoru clenches his fist, then asks if she is willing to help him fight with Sailor Moon. Chibiusa dries her eyes, transforms into Sailor Chibi Moon, and says that she is a Sailor Senshi; even though they might not have the same power as Sailor Moon, they can still fight together. She heads off to join the battle, followed by Tuxedo Mask.

The monster grows larger, then lunges at the Inner Senshi - but is suddenly struck by Pink Sugar Heart Attack as Sailor Chibi Moon arrives. She tells the others that Hotaru gave her life to protect her. At Tuxedo Mask's urging, Sailor Moon calls upon the Holy Grail, and as she does, a second one appears before Sailor Chibi Moon as well. The two of them transform into their Super forms, then exchange looks and combine their powers to perform Rainbow Double Moon Heart Ache. The monster, however, only grows larger. The Inner Senshi and Tuxedo Mask attack together, but once again, the monster absorbs the attacks and increases in size.

When it encounters the force field, however, the monster that was Mistress 9 stops momentarily. The swirling form of the Tau Nebula materializes in the sky above them, and the monster greets its appearance with glee. Sailor Chibi Moon's strength fails her and she falls, and is caught by Tuxedo Mask. Mistress 9 calls out to Pharaoh 90, then blackness erupts from its forehead and it collapses to the ground, spreading darkness across the Delta.

The Outer Senshi drop to their knees one by one, drained, and the force field collapses. Sailor Moon and the Inner Senshi attack, but the darkness only sucks in their power; Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Sailor Mars, and Sailor Mercury all fall from the sky to collapse on the rooftops with the Outer Senshi.

Sailor Moon realizes that everyone has reached their limits, but a little of their power is still within her. She declares that she alone, with the Silver Crystal, can fight with all their power. As she calls upon the Holy Grail, it appears before her once more, and she takes it in her hands. Tuxedo Mask calls after her, but she only smiles at him and then allows herself to fall into the darkness below, cradling the Grail to her; she thinks to herself that she will open the Grail and release its power once she is inside of the darkness.

The three Talismans begin to glow, and when the Outer Senshi take hold of them, release powerful bursts of energy. A light appears within the darkness of the monster, and Sailor Saturn rises up from within it. The others watch her with dismay. Sailor Saturn observes that history seems to have gone wrong. She attacks the monster with her Silence Glaive, and it cries out in pain.

Sailor Saturn says that she was not supposed to awaken within Hotaru's body, but then Professor Tomoe forced her to stay alive after the accident and used her as a vessel for Mistress 9. Now the beings from the other world have sought the energy in this place, and the descent toward ruin has called her to bring down the Silence Glaive.

Heedless to the cries of the Senshi, Sailor Saturn uses Death Reborn Revolution. Power swirls around her, pulling the monster from the ground up toward the blackness in the sky above. The others have enough time to realize what is happening before Saturn's Glaive swings downward, and the destruction begins. As the ground cracks and the sea rises, Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Chibi Moon mourn for Sailor Moon. Sailor Uranus thinks of Usagi, and how she just wanted to protect the girl.

Suddenly a light appears in the midst of the destruction, and as it rises into the air, Super Sailor Moon is visible in the center of it. Sailor Moon opens her eyes, the crescent on her forehead glowing, and sees Sailor Saturn. She realizes that Saturn will be destroyed along with the enemy, but Saturn tells her not to be sad, because with the end comes hope and rebirth, which is what she herself brings; because Sailor Moon used the power of the Grail and the Silver Crystal, the world can be saved. Sailor Saturn calls to Sailor Pluto to close the passageway to the other world, and Pluto uses Dark Dome Close to seal away the invaders. As the Space-Time Door closes, however, Saturn fades away with it.

Sailor Moon shifts to her Neo-Queen Serenity form and stares at the sky as Sailor Saturn's words echo within her mind. She lifts her Spiral Heart Moon Rod, and with her power the buildings re-form and people revive. Tuxedo Mask looks at her as she stands atop a pillar, surrounded by the ruins of Mugen Gakuen, and recognizes the image from his dreams: she was the Messiah he had seen, after all.

They turn at the sound of a baby crying, and the Outer Senshi find a baby lying on a blanket - with the symbol of Saturn glowing on its forehead. They realize that Hotaru has been reborn, and decide to raise her as their child, together. The three of them bid the others farewell, saying that they have a new mission, but promise Sailor Chibi Moon that they will return some time, because they are friends and allies. As a sign of that promise, Sailor Neptune leaves her mirror with Sailor Chibi Moon, and tells her to continue to become a stronger Senshi.

Back in their civilian forms, Usagi and the others run to Haruka's apartment, but find it bare. The same is true of Michiru and Setsuna's homes, and as they look outside, they see three helicopters fly overhead. Usagi looks up at the sky and thinks that they will surely meet again, someday.
