Usagi is reading Sleeping Beauty to Chibiusa as a bedtime story. Chibiusa says she finds it boring because she already knows the story, but Usagi chides her and continues. Usagi completes the story and asks Chibiusa if she thinks its romantic, but Chibiusa has fallen asleep.

Mamoru is having his nightmare again. The nightmare starts as a dream where he and Usagi are getting married... but then Usagi turns into Princess Serenity, and is surrounded by crumbling rocks before dissappearing in a flash of light. A mysterious voice tells him that if he ever gets close to Usagi, the world will crumble and Princess Serenity will be "struck by misfortune".

As Mamoru looks at a picture of himself and Usagi, the glass in the photograph frame breaks and Usagi falls over lifelessly. When he looks again, the picture is back to normal but the glass is still broken. The next morning, Mamoru is on a bridge looking into the water below, in which he sees Usagi's smiling face. Usagi appears and tries to confront him but Mamoru brushes her off by asking if she has found out anything more about Crystal Tokyo from Chibiusa. He then continues with his morning jog, apologising to her in his mind as he jogs away.

Later, Mamoru meets Motoki at the Fruits Parlor Crown. Motoki asks what's wrong, and Mamoru asks Motoki how can he get a girl to hate him. Motoki is confused by this question when suddenly a pretty waitress appears with Mamoru's order...

Usagi and the other Senshi have gathered in Juuban Park. The girls ask if Usagi has questioned Chibiusa about Crystal Tokyo, and she replies by sighing. She gets annoyed when she hears a motorcyclist revving his engine and making lots of noise, but the motorcyclist turns out to be Mamoru... and the pretty waitress is with him. Usagi confronts Mamoru, asking who the waitress is, but Mamoru tells her it's none of her business. The waitress asks Mamoru who Usagi is and Mamoru replies: "Just someone I know." He drives off, leaving Usagi to cry on the sidewalk. As he drives away, he remembers his nightmare, and mentally apologises to Usagi again. He plans to avoid her until he can figure out why he keeps having the nightmare.

That night, at the Tsukino residence, Luna comes across Usagi stuffing herself infront of her fridge. When Luna asks why Usagi isn't worried about putting on weight Usagi replies she doesn't care now that Mamoru has a new girlfriend.

Chibiusa overhears and is upset by this new information. She runs outside and in her state of dismay is nearly hit by a truck. Her energy peaks. Usagi notices, and Luna tells her that Chibiusa isn't in the house. The Black Moon Clan also notice, and Petz and Calaveras track Chibiusa down to Juuban Park. The pair attack Chibiusa, but luckily Usagi and Luna aren't far away, and Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon. Luna and Sailor Moon get Chibiusa away from Petz and Calaveras, but the two villainesses unleash the Droid Akumuda, who sends Sailor Moon into a hypnotic sleep.

The two sisters continue their attack on Chibiusa but are interrupted by the Sailor Team. Realising the odds are against them, Petz and Calaveras depart, leaving Akumuda to fight the Senshi. Akumuda nearly puts all of the other Senshi to sleep but Sailor Mars stops her attack with Akuryo Taisan. Akumuda then enters Sailor Moon's dream, saying that she plans to use up all of Sailor Moon's energy in her dream and kill her.

In her dream, Sailor Moon finds herself running along an unending road trying to get to Mamoru, then finds herself in a lifebelt, adrift in the middle of the ocean crying out for Mamoru. Outside, Sailor Mars slaps Sailor Moon, hoping it will wake her, but all it does is cause Sailor Moon to utter "Mamo-chan" in her sleep.

Luna sees this, and remembering Usagi's despair earlier that night, dashes off toward Mamoru's apartment. Luna wakes Mamoru by jumping upon him, and tells them of the situation, but Mamoru is reluctant to help. Luna can't understand why Mamoru has rejected Usagi and breaks down into tears. Mamoru nearly explains his reason but then falls silent. He doesn't react until Luna tells him that Sailor Moon is about to die.

Mamoru drives toward Juuban Park on his motorcycle, transforming into Tuxedo Mask and begging Usagi to stay alive till he gets there.

Inside Usagi's dream, she is now riding a tricycle toward Mamoru, still calling out for him. Sailor Mercury notices that Sailor Moon's body temprature is dropping, at which point Tuxedo Mask arrives. He tries to wake Sailor Moon, but he can't. He thinks of the nightmare again, but when he hears Sailor Moon call out for him in her sleep he relises that only one thing will awaken her, and apologises to her softly, then kisses her. Inside the dream, Akumuda is exorcised. Sailor Moon awakens, and Sailor Mercury says her energy has been revived by the power of love. Everyone is relieved and Chibiusa comments that the fairytale came true.

Akumuda reappears and attacks Tuxedo Mask, Sailor Moon uses Moon Princess Halation to destroy her. She then confronts Tuxedo Mask thinking that their breakup is over, but he thinks of the photograph-vision and turns her away crushing one of his roses. He then leaves and Sailor Moon is devastated. Mamoru goes down to the docks, where he whispers an apology to Usagi and starts to cry.

The next day, Usagi meets up with the waitress who turns out to be Unazuki Furuhata, Motoki's younger sister. It also transpires that she is not Mamoru's new girlfriend, but he was merely giving her a lift to a date with someone else. Usagi is delighted at this news and while she doesn't understand why Mamoru is avoiding her she resolves to win his love back no matter what.
