Germatoid in the anime

Germatoid was a major member of the Death Busters. He was one of Pharaoh 90's most influential underlings, and in both the anime and manga was associated with Professor Souichi Tomoe.

Anime

In the anime, he was the first Daimon to reach the Earth from the Tau Nebula. After a laboratory accident which killed Hotaru Tomoe, he appeared to her father, Professor Souichi Tomoe, and offered to revive her - for a price. In return, he possessed the Professor's body and implanted Mistress 9 into Hotaru.

In his guise as the Professor, Germatoid established Mugen Gakuen and, with the help of Kaolinite and the Witches 5, searched for the Talismans, all with the aim of finding the Holy Grail, reviving Mistress 9, and opening the way for Pharaoh 90 to reach the Earth.

Germatoid revealed his identity to Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune after they infiltrated Mugen Gakuen to destroy Mistress 9 and prevent the Silence. It was then that he left Professor Tomoe's body and revealed his true form. He deployed duplicates of himself, but Sailor Neptune was able to expose the real Germatoid with the Deep Aqua Mirror, after which Sailor Uranus destroyed him by stabbing him in the eye with the Space Sword.

After Tomoe was freed from the Daimon's influence, Mistress 9 rejected him, disgustedly calling him "Germatoid's empty shell."

Manga

In the manga, Professor Tomoe, unlike his anime counterpart, was not being possessed by Germatoid but was instead inherently evil himself after being infected by a Daimon Egg. He wished to become an ultimate being and experimented on Daimons, humans and with cybernetics in order to do so.

When he achieved his desire and transformed himself into this so-called ultimate being he called himself Germatoid. He was killed shortly after transforming by Super Sailor Moon's Rainbow Moon Heart Ache attack.

Trivia

  • Germatoid was the only male Daimon in the entire third season of the anime. All other Daimons appeared to be female.
  • In biological terminology, a "germ" could be a bud or sprout from a larger organism from which a new organism may develop. The suffix "—oid" on the end means "related to" or "resembling."
