Gurio Sorano is a classmate of ChibiUsa Tsukino's at Juuban Municipal Primary School, and a friend of Kyuusuke Sarashina (who seems to think Sorano should be more athletic). Sorano bore a striking resemblance to both Gurio Umino and Gurikazu Amano, in both physical appearance and in personality, and even wore the same kind of thick glasses as both of them.

In the Manga, Gurio Sorano's makes his first appearance in the Short-Side-Story, ChibiUsa's Picture Diaries Chapter 1 Beware of the Transfer Student, supplying trivia about Lilica Hubert being the daughter of an Ambassador and living at an Embassy for Country U. Later, Sorano is dragged against his will by Kyuusuke Sarashina to accompany him, ChibiUsa Tsukino and Momoko Momohara, over to the Embassy where Lilica Hubert lives (which, according to Makoto Kino, is nicknamed "Hell House"). When Lilica and her mother (and two boys she'd lured to to Embassy) are vampires, they're all saved by the timely intervention of Sailor Moon and Sailor-Venus-as-Sailor-V with Crescent Boomerang, Double Sailor Kick, ChibiUsa's ad-libbed Garlic Attack and Moon Princess Halation. The next day, both Momoko Momohara and Kyuusuke Sarashina are left unsure of the events of the previous day--Sorano wasn't shown but may have also have been left unsure of the events at the Embassy, too.

Gurio Sorano also appears briefly in ChibiUsa's Picture Diaries Chapter 2 Beware of Tanabata, where, when Kyuusuke Sarashina gripes about about the girls in his class wanting only boys with money, and claims that boys with physical strength (like himself) should be preferable, Sorano pipes-in, citing that physical strength fades with age but money necessarily-doesn't (causing Kyuusuke Sarashina to snap at him to shut-up). They also observe more Sailor Moon-theamed Wristwatch-Locket-Combos like ChibiUsa's being sold from a street-stall by a "suspicious old lady", voicing the observation that, as popular as the wristwatches are proving to be, the set-up seems shady. While Sorano and Sarashina don't appear again, their suspicions are later proven true, when the wristwatch-lockets are proven to be cursed (by Epsilon and Zeta, using Shokujo to lure-in young girls to one spot, so-as to steal their lifefore and youth to maintain their-own; Epsilon's and Zeta's plot was foiled by Sailor ChibiMoon's Pink Sugar Heart Attack).

In the main Sailor Moon manga, Sorano appears in Act 27 Mugen 1 Yokan (and in the Crystal reboot adaptation's corresponding episode, Act.27 Mugen 1 Yokan ・ Kouhen), Sorano was one of the group of Chibiusa's classmates who visited Mugen C Park. He, along with Kyuusuke and another unnamed boy, were treated to juice by Mamoru while they waited for the girls to finish riding the roller coaster.
