Kaguya Shima Densetsu (Kaiteiban) Natsuyasumi! Houseki Tankentai was the kaiteiban of the previous Kaguya musical. The storyline was very similar, with only a few changes, such as added scenes that took place in Crystal Tokyo, and with them the first significant musical appearance of Neo-Queen Serenity. The new director Junya Saiki took over with this musical and stayed until the hiatus in 2005.

This was the first musical for Yuuka Asami, and the final musical for Fumina Hara, Seiko Nakazawa, Hironari Amano, Miho Komiya, Nanami Ikeuchi, and Rika Kawai.
