Naru Osaka was the daughter of the owner of the Osa-P jewelry store and friend to Usagi Tsukino. Her father did not seem to exist, but a younger sister, Naruru Osaka, appeared in a brief side story in the manga.

Naru seemed to have an inexplicable ability to attract any and every kind of supernatural creature to her. This included Youma, Droids, Shitennou, and Sailor Senshi, among others. Despite the frequency of these encounters, she did not improve at identifying supernatural beings before they revealed themselves. Only in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon did she ever learn Sailor Moon was in fact her closest friend, Usagi Tsukino, though it should be noted that in both the Black Moon arc of the manga and the corresponding R season of the anime, Naru indicated that she was aware of the fact that Usagi was part of something "bigger" than her own (relatively) mundane existence.

Naru had the most romantic experience among all of the recurring Sailor Moon characters. She fell in love with the Dark Kingdom's Shitennou, Nephrite, and was involved with him until his untimely death. The class dork, Gurio Umino, eventually won her heart and she dated him through the remainder of the series.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon[edit]

Naru in PGSM

The live-action Naru began very similar to her anime self, but over the course of the show she developed into a different character. She became jealous of all of Usagi's new friends, the Senshi's civilian forms, particularly Ami Mizuno. Later in the series, she learned that Usagi was Sailor Moon, and was injured indirectly during a battle by Princess Sailor Moon. She spent the remainder of the series recovering, but forgave Usagi for keeping the secrets from her and renewed their friendship.

In the Final Act, in the brief glimpse shown of an alternate timeline in which Usagi and Mamoru never existed, Naru and Ami appeared to be close friends and Naru seemed to be filling the role of Usagi (e.g. being late for school).

In the Special Act, Naru appeared briefly when she attended Usagi and Mamoru's wedding along with the other friends they met in junior high, and "fought" for the bouquet when Usagi was about to throw it.

In Act Zero, Naru was shown to be a huge fan of Sailor V, and she and her friends decided to dress up as Sailor Senshi in order to scare off potential robbers. She took on the persona of the yellow-suited cosplay Sailor Senshi, "Sailor N," though she ultimately failed to stop the robbers from breaking in.

Naru did not appear in the first run of the musicals, though she was mentioned in Sailor Moon - Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen by Nephrite in regard to his love for her.

In the Nelke musicals, she appeared in Nogizaka46 Version Musical and its first revision, played by Yuka Yamauchi, and in the second revision, played by Yuzuha Uesugi.

English Dub[edit]

In the first English dub of Sailor Moon, Naru was renamed Molly Baker. She was also given a Brooklyn accent, presumably to parallel her Osaka accent in the original Japanese version. "Molly" tended to be less critical of "Serena" than Naru was; for instance, in the first episode, the dialogue where Naru scolded Usagi about eating her food early was changed to Molly comforting Serena about getting a bad grade.

In Fandom[edit]

Fanfiction writers have often chosen Naru to take the role of a new Senshi when they do not use an original character for the purpose.
