Sailor Moon and Crayon Shin-chan refers to the many references and cameo appearances of Sailor Moon on the anime series Crayon Shin-chan airing on TV Asahi (the same Japanese television network that aired the Sailor Moon anime from its debut). In early cameos the series featured as Sailor Moon, but in later episodes of Crayon Shin-chan, a parody of the anime called "Sailor Mufoon" was used instead.

Sailor Moon

  • Sailor Moon director Kunihiko Ikuhara appeared signing autographs for Sailor Moon fans in a anime and manga convention. While Shin-chan was watching a live performance, her mother Misae ended up taking Ikuhara's autograph in his place. Misae fell in love with the director at first sight and she started to watch the Sailor Moon anime since then.
  • Shin-chan's neighbor Yoshirin collects Sailor Moon dolls among other mercharchandise from magical girl TV shows. His wife Michii often refers to it as an embarrassing hobby.
  • When Yumi, Shin-chan's father's secretary, gave a home-made sweater to Shin-chan's father she parodied Sailor Moon's speech and final pose by saying "If you don't try it on, I will punish you on behalf on the moon!".

Sailor Mufoon

Sailor Mufoon is the later parody of Sailor Moon in Crayon Shin-chan. In the series, it probably airs in TV Asahi, since a Sailor Mufoon advertisement could be seen in one of the TV Asahi offices when Shin-chan and his mother visited the headquarterts in one episode. The main character of the show was also called "Sailor Mufoon". Sailor Muffon characters were dressed with outfits resembling sailor fuku, wore tiaras, and made Sailor Moon-like speeches.

  • In episode 109 of Crayon Shin-chan, Aya Hisakawa, Emi Shinohara, and Kae Araki appeared as "Sailor Iyaan," "Sailor Bakaan," and "Sailor Mufoon," a group of teen cosplayers on an anime convention.

Other Parodies

  • Mimiko Sakura, one of the characteres from Shin-chan's favourite live-action series, Action Kamen gained the power to transform into a sailor-suited heroine called "Sailor Mimiko" in order to save the series main hero, Action Kamen. Her transformation and attack item was the neckerchief of her sailor fuku, and she had love and boomerang-based powers. Later in the series, she gained a more elaborate and colorful sailor fuku, which included a Sailor V-like mask.
