Sailor Moon in the Philippines
Sailor Moon in the Philippines refers to the Sailor Moon anime series dubbed in Tagalog, which aired in the Philippines beginning in October 1994 on ABC 5 (now TV5) Saturdays at 6:00 pm. Although Sailor Moon R finished in April/May 1997, Sailor Moon S did not air until April 1998 for reasons unexplained. The last episode of Sailor Moon Sailor Stars aired on July 20, 2002.
In this version, Usagi was named "Bunny" in the first two seasons, but the other names were kept. Only the first opening song was dubbed into Tagalog; all of the other music were in Japanese. There were cuts in some episodes, though these were mainly to fit airtime limitations.
The Tagalog dub did not translate the attack and transformation phrases, and they were all kept unchanged from the original form.
In December 2011, the large media conglomerate ABS-CBN announced that it would be re-releasing the anime series across its syndicated channels throughout the country as part of its "Team Animazing 2012" lineup, with a new dub cast.

Censorship and Changes
Original Dub
- In episode 96, the scene in which the Daimon Scar extracted Makoto Kino's Pure Heart Crystal was cut to avoid showing the Daimon's breast.
- Fisheye became a woman, although the scene where "she" revealed "her" chest remained unchanged.
2012 Dub
- Zoisite remained a man, but his relationship scenes with Kunzite were either removed or censored, and their relationship was more platonic. He was also voiced by a woman.
- In episode 72, the scene in which Petz and Calaveras were transformed into humans was cut short due to nudity.
- Most of the insert songs were removed, although "Moonlight Densetsu" still played in episode 46.
Sailor Moon Tagalog Theme Song
The lyrics were written by Vehnee Saturno, and it was sung by Angelika Dela Cruz (credited as Angelika in the series). The melody was the same as "Moonlight Densetsu."
Tagalog | English Translation |
---|---|
Ikaw ang lagi kong hinahanap | You're the one that I always look for |
Kasama kang lagi sa pangarap | You're always in my dreams |
Nais ko'y lagi kang nakikita | I always want to see you |
Marahil nga ay mahal kita | It's probably because I love you so |
Liwanag ng buwan sa kalawakan | The brightness of the moon on the horizon |
Hinahatid ka sa'king isipan | Brings memories of you |
Paano ba kita makakausap? | How will I ever talk to you? |
Ikaw sa akin ang lahat | You are everything to me |
Sana bawat saglit laging kapiling ka | I wish that every moment I am by your side |
Pag-ibig ko sana'y madama | I hope that you can feel my love |
Basta't kasama kita sa pangarap | When I was with you in my dreams |
Nadarama'y wala ngang katulad | It was unlike anything I've felt before |
Ligayang dulot nito sa aking puso | The joy this feeling brings to my heart |
Sana ay di na magwakas | I wish that it will never end |
