TV Asahi (テレビ朝日; lit. "TV Morning Sun") is the Tokyo television station that aired the Sailor Moon anime from its debut. (TV Asahi is the flagship of an informal entertainment network that carried the show across Japan.) TV Asahi originally approached Naoko Takeuchi about creating a Codename: Sailor V anime, and so Takeuchi created the Sailor Moon manga with adaptation to an anime in mind. TV Asahi put Sailor Moon on prime time on Saturday nights.

The station was founded as NET (Nippon Educational Television) and went by that name until the late 1970s. NET aired many of Toei's previous magical-girl shows, such as Mahou Tsukai Sally, Cutie Honey, and Majokko Megu-chan.
