Chant

Does anyone know the chant Rei uses to perform the attack the first time? It isn't RinPyouTouShaJinRetsuZaiZen.

The chant from episode 54[edit]

I'm not 100% sure -- somebody with better hearing should listen to this sequence -- but it appears to be a type of mantra for Fudou Myou-ou (慈救咒 Jikushu), which is something like のうまく さんまんだ ばさらだん せんだんまかろしゃだや そは たや うんたらた かんまん. (Makes sense considering his silhouette is also in the Akuryou Taisan anime attack sequence.) --YnK 09:48, 12 July 2011 (MST)

What I hear doesn't exactly match that but some parts of it are the same? Kerochan no Miko 17:25, 12 July 2011 (MST)
It is that probably, mantras like that don't sound exactly like normal Japanese. I went to an SGS thingy and their mantra was only transliterated into hiragana. I'd say it's safe to put that into the articleHave_a_niceity 23:17, 12 July 2011 (MST)
Put what into the article? Kerochan no Miko 00:21, 13 July 2011 (MST)
The reference to the mantra used, I guess? But seriously, if you're trying to compare what Rei says to the hiragana transcription I provided, it'll be slightly off because the mantra is technically in sanskrit which can't be exactly replicated using the Japanese writing/phonetic systems.
Still, what made me think I'm on the right track is the Fudou Myou-ou connection. That deity is even mentioned in the glossary section of the Nakayoshi Album II for the first season; according to that entry, in episode 40 Rei used Fudou Myou-ou's power to weaken the lake spirit - but what she actually does there is her regular Akuryou Taisan chant sequence with some extra spell at the start, in Japanese, which is a fairly common spell used for exorcism. So, it won't be surprising if she is capable of using other techniques related to Fudou Myou-ou. I know that borders on speculation, probably, but at least it shows that Rei using that particular chant as part of the Fire Soul Bird attack is not a coincidence. --YnK 02:01, 13 July 2011 (MST)
It does border on speculation, which is why I'm asking exactly what you wanted to put in the trivia note. It'd have to be worded kind of carefully, though having a connection in the anime album would help. Kerochan no Miko 02:12, 13 July 2011 (MST)
