I propose we move the "Gym Shapely" page to simply "Shapelin". As seen here in these screenshots I have taken from Viz's Blu-ray/DVD release [https://i.ibb.co/m0TcBHb/Viz-BD-screenshot1.jpg] & [https://i.ibb.co/CMdGmJ2/Gym-Shaperin01.png], they have translated シェイプリン as Shapelin (for on-screen text translations) & Shaperin (for audio based translations). I believe it's possibly an abbreviation of "Shapeliness", so the translation based on text would be more accurate. Also, they never use "Gym" attached to the business name, but Rie Gotou says "Este Salon Shapelin エステ・サロン・シェイプリン" (for some reason the subtitles skip the "Este Salon" part of her dialogue), so other possible page names could be "Beauty Salon Shapelin"[https://i.ibb.co/m4B8fcW/Este-translation.jpg] or just "Shapelin" and we can have "establishment type: gymnasium" in the info panel. What does everyone think? -[[User:CorzaMoon|CorzaMoon]] ([[User talk:CorzaMoon|talk]]) 03:45, 26 November 2019 (EST)

Revision as of 02:48, 3 December 2019

The pic shows that the name of the gym is sthg like "Shape-rin" (meaning "shapely girl"), & in any case not "Shapely." Or is it a typo by the animators? Any other official sources for its name? --210 23:37, 24 January 2009 (MST)

Um, I would think it is a typo. Either that or the name on the building was just intended as a caption for the animated girl, not to advertise the name of the gym itself. However that is the building where Gym Shapely is. Griffie
But the Japanese Sailor Moon sites I saw consider it as the name of the salon (they use the word "salon," as in "beauty salon," instead of "gym"), not the name of the building housing that salon... --210 06:34, 25 January 2009 (MST)
BTW, you may type "~~~~" or click the 2nd right button immediately above the edit box to sign your comments here. ^^ --210 06:38, 25 January 2009 (MST)
Thank you, I do use the four tildes. :) Well I didn't think that it was the name of the building, but the salon's name could be on the outside of the building showing that the salon is in there. "Shape-rin" could very well be a typo considering that if you took away the "ン" it would be "Shaperi" which would be correct right? Griffie 20:27, 25 January 2009 (MST)
Yeah, it could be a typo, but I wonder if there're any official sources mentioning the name that can show whether it really is. --210 21:16, 25 January 2009 (MST)
I haven't come across any yet, but that certainly does not mean there isn't one, especially if it is written in Japanese which I cannot read fluently. It would be helpful to find out, though.Griffie 21:43, 25 January 2009 (MST)

It is written as シェイプリン in the second Nakayoshi album, and the name definitely refers to the gym itself... --YnK 04:34, 28 February 2012 (MST)

Yeah, I've just noticed that in the pic, too, so should we change the name? --210 08:47, 28 February 2012 (MST)
Ah, I've totally forgotten those past discussions above. ^^; So is the word "salon" used in the album, too? --210 01:53, 29 February 2012 (MST)
エステサロン, to be specific. (So its full name would be something like "Beauty Salon Shaperin", although it's never actually written like that.) --YnK 02:01, 29 February 2012 (MST)
Proposing to move this article to "Esthetic Salon Shape-rin", then. --210 02:52, 29 February 2012 (MST)
Disagree, because "Esthetic Salon" is not a phrase that would ever be used in English. The building itself only says "シェイプリン" so I would suggest sticking with "Shape-rin" and noting the full name from the album in the article itself since it never actually appeared in the series. Kerochan no Miko 06:59, 29 February 2012 (MST)
Yup, "Esthetic Salon" would be an overkill; also, the glossary entry for the building is titled just "シェイプリン", so it's okay to simply call it "Shape-rin". But "beauty salon" would be a more accurate term for the building than a "gym", so the article text could be tweaked a bit. --YnK 07:39, 29 February 2012 (MST)
No problem w/ changing the title to simply "Shape-rin". Actually I've also only heard the phrase "beauty salon" in English myself, but I didn't know whether "esthetic salon" could also work in English as in Japanese, so thx for letting me know about that. : ) --210 09:56, 29 February 2012 (MST)

Gym Shapelin

Shall we fix the name of the gym? It showed up as "Shapelin" in the subtitles and new dub version from Viz [1]. I guess it's a abbreviation of "Shapeliness" as Japanese sometimes like to do with loan words. But since we don't have any official sources using the full word, I guess Shapelin will have to do. How easy is it to migrate the page to a new name? Or is it easier to copy and paste/adjust into a new page, and just delete this one. Only a couple of pages will need the updated link. I'll leave it to the admin's discretion. -CorzaMoon (talk) 16:46, 25 November 2019 (EST)

You may formally propose the page move w/ the reasons here - if there's been no objection for a week after that, you may go ahead & move the page (the "move" button is at the top of the page). --210 (talk) 02:15, 26 November 2019 (EST)
Do I propose the move under a new heading here? -CorzaMoon (talk) 02:42, 26 November 2019 (EST)
Yup - you may type, say, "Propose to move the page to 'Shapelin'" & then state your reasons on this talk page. --210 (talk) 02:49, 26 November 2019 (EST)

Propose to move the page to 'Shapelin'

I propose we move the "Gym Shapely" page to simply "Shapelin". As seen here in these screenshots I have taken from Viz's Blu-ray/DVD release [2] & [3], they have translated シェイプリン as Shapelin (for on-screen text translations) & Shaperin (for audio based translations). I believe it's possibly an abbreviation of "Shapeliness", so the translation based on text would be more accurate. Also, they never use "Gym" attached to the business name, but Rie Gotou says "Este Salon Shapelin エステ・サロン・シェイプリン" (for some reason the subtitles skip the "Este Salon" part of her dialogue), so other possible page names could be "Beauty Salon Shapelin"[4] or just "Shapelin" and we can have "establishment type: gymnasium" in the info panel. What does everyone think? -CorzaMoon (talk) 03:45, 26 November 2019 (EST)
