Usagi's Fat Friend (May 26, 2006)

Usagi's Fat Friend was a background character appearing mainly in the first season of the anime, notable for being significantly shorter and chubbier than most of her anime contemporaries. She was played by Mayumi Seto.

A female student of Juuban Municipal Junior High School, Usagi's Fat Friend was known to associate with Usagi Tsukino, Naru Osaka and Gurio Umino. Despite being keen to lose weight, she was still quite confident in her appearance and apparently considered herself to be more attractive than some of her friends. She shared Naru and Umino's early mistrust of Ami Mizuno and was one of the many girls who developed a crush on Seijuurou Ginga.

Along with Usagi, Naru and another friend, she joined Gym Shapely after witnessing Haruna Sakurada's miraculous and rapid weight loss. The girls did not realise that the business and its sinister 'Shape Ray' were part of an energy-harvesting operation controlled by Jadeite on behalf of the Dark Kingdom. Fortunately, Sailor Moon discovered the gym's true purpose and destroyed the operation before her friends came to permanent harm.

Miharu Akiyama (June 16, 2006)

Miharu Akiyama was a character who appeared in Sailor Moon SuperS, and is notable for being one of the few civilians to have fought alongside Sailor Moon. She was played by Sakura Tange.

Miharu came from a family of swordsmen. Her father died when she was young, although his wish was for her to become the strongest swordsman in Japan. Five years later, she was an expert in the style of the Unrivalled Sword and was already better than most adults. However, her mother, also an extremely skilled swordsman, was unsupportive of her ambition, repeatedly telling Miharu that she didn't have the skills necessary to achieve her dream. Miharu then took to camping out underneath a railway bridge, practicing her skills and accepting challenges from passers-by.

Eventually, Miharu became acquainted with Chibiusa, who was impressed by her skills. Chibiusa asked to become Miharu's apprentice, but Miharu refused, insisting that she was still learning and not ready for a pupil. Chibiusa then offered her "three meals and a nap", and Miharu accepted, moving into Usagi's room...

Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon (July 25, 2006)

Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon was the fifth and last of the Sailor Animamates to appear in the Sailor Moon manga. Much of the information now known about her was only revealed in the Materials Collection.

Sailor Heavy Metal Papillon was known as the Soul Hunter. Like the other Animamates, she sought out Star Seeds, but she also buried them in her graveyard. Whatever essences escaped them then transformed into butterflies, fluttering off into oblivion.

Sailor Moon, Princess Kakyuu, and Sailor Chibi Chibi encountered her just after the deaths of the Sailor Starlights. As they watched the butterflies overhead, a mysterious Sailor Senshi with wings explained that the butterflies were what remained of the Sailor Senshi captured by Galaxia, and that it was her job to help extinguish the remains. Behind her was a graveyard where a funeral procession was going on. To everyone's shock, they discovered that the Sailor Starlights had been buried there...

Silver Crystal (November 16, 2006)

The Silver Crystal, also known as the Maboroshi no Ginzuishou (幻の銀水晶; meaning "illusionary silver crystal"), was an object of great power in the Sailor Moon storyline. This crystal originally belonged to Queen Serenity, who ruled the Solar System from the Moon Kingdom during the era of the Silver Millennium. By the power of the Silver Crystal, the people of the Moon were able to enjoy long, peaceful lives. The Moon Kingdom watched over the planet Earth and the Solar System in this time of peace.

When the Moon Kingdom was destroyed, Queen Serenity used the power of the Silver Crystal to seal the attacking enemies. She also used it to send her daughter, the prince, and all of the Sailor Senshi to the future on Earth where they would be reborn to hopefully live peaceful lives. However, just in case the dark forces would reawaken, she also sent two feline guardians to the future to help the Sailor Senshi if need be. With the loss of the Silver Crystal, the Queen died on the remains of the Moon Kingdom....

Sailor Moon in North America (December 17, 2006)

Sailor Moon in North America covers every notable English version of the metaseries, including fan-subtitled versions.

The North American dub of Sailor Moon is probably one of the most notable dubs for two reasons. The first is that its popularity introduced anime to many viewers in North America who had never before heard of such a thing. The second is the infamous and overwhelming amount of changes, censorship, and cuts which have caused many English-speaking fans to turn to subtitled versions of the original Japanese series.

In 1995, DiC won the rights to Sailor Moon in North America. The series was a sixty-five episode package, with seven episodes cut for reasons unknown. The series did so poorly in syndication that, after the run had completed, DiC dropped the show and made no effort to bring the series to even the end of the second season....

Moon Prism Power, Make Up (January 15, 2007)

Moon Prism Power, Make Up was the first command Usagi Tsukino used to change into Sailor Moon in the anime and manga, and the only one in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

In this sequence, Usagi first raised her hand and, from episode 7 onwards, her nails then sparkled and turned pink (before episode 7, only the front of Usagi's hand was visible). The focus turned to Usagi's face as her eyes blinked open, then the perspective pulled back to show her entire body outline, obscured by glowing colors with only her brooch visible. Usagi spun around several times and translucent pink ribbons wrapped around her body, forming her leotard, gloves and boots. Her skirt appeared, and she spun again as her tiara gem appeared on her forehead; the focus then moved close to her face and her tiara and odango covers materialized. Sailor Moon finished with her final pose.

Keiko Kitagawa (February 16, 2007)

Keiko Kitagawa (北川景子) is the actress who played Rei Hino/Sailor Mars/Reiko Mars in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Her other roles, which have all been in movies, include Yumi Honma in Mamiya Kyodai, Rikka Mizuchi in Mizu ni Sumu Hana, Kiyohara in Cherry Pie, Reiko in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and Rina in Dear Friends.

She is the second eldest Senshi actress, but unlike the others, she actually had zero experience in the entertainment world before her debut in PGSM. After winning the "Miss Seventeen" title of the SEVENTEEN teen fashion magazine in 2003 (the same title Mew Azama won in 2002), she began her modelling career, and quickly became one of the few top models of the magazine, dubbed by other media as a "charismatic model" of the teenage generation (she graduated in September 2006). Her presence in the consciousness of the general public was boosted by her Hollywood debut in 2006....

Otaku Senshi (March 17, 2007)

All Sailor Senshi invented by fans fall into the category of Otaku Senshi (御宅戦士). They are made through fanfiction, fan-art, and role playing. Chibi versions of all canon Senshi, significantly different powered up variations of canon Senshi, and canon characters tossed into Senshi-like roles also apply.

Generally speaking, Otaku Senshi are developed by their creators with at least a profile and image or images. The profiles range from very basic information such as their birthdate, age, favorites, dislikes, academic interests, hobbies, and dreams or goals, to more developed profiles which include information about personality, history, and mission as a Sailor Senshi. Longer profiles have become more popular in recent years, as creators seek to solidify their character's existence in the Sailor Moon metaverse, or try to work out their finer details. There are some creators that use Otaku Senshi in fanfiction without developing a profile for them. Other creators will allow their characters to develop naturally through roleplay.

Xenian Flower (April 18, 2007)

The Xenian Flower, also known simply as Xenian, was the main villain of the Sailor Moon R movie.

Xenian Flowers were an unusual variety of Flower Youma. Although much smaller than other Flower Youma, as well as almost totally immobile, the Xenian Flower had a fearsome reputation as the most destructive life form in the galaxy. The inhabitants of the Silver Millennium were well aware of the dangers associated with the flowers, as they had been implicated in the destruction of numerous civilisations.

The space-dwelling flowers were highly dependent upon humanoid hosts. They were able to latch onto emotionally vulnerable individuals and exert a high degree of control over their actions, turning their fears into obsessive, nihilistic hatred. With the help of such hosts, Xenian flowers could then command armies of Flower Youma, draining the life energy from entire planets. The hosts, for thir part, retained their sentience but did not appear to realise their emotions were being manipulated.

Anza Ooyama (May 18, 2007)

Anza Ooyama (大山アンザ) was the first actress to play Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon in the Sailor Moon musicals. Her first show was the original 1993 Sailor Moon - Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen, and her last show was the Final First Stage Eien Densetsu (Kaiteiban) in 1998. Anza has also made many guest appearances, namely the 1998 Golden Week Fan Appreciation Event, the 500th performance, the 10th Anniversary Talk Show (on which she appeared during two seperate days), and the 777th performance.

Both Anza and Ayako Morino also hosted the 1995 Ongaku Shuu video.

Anza was the longest running actress to play Sailor Moon, and was also tied for the fifth longest running overall performer in the musicals.

Chibi Chibi (July 1, 2007)

Chibi Chibi was the civilian identity of Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon. Her appearance was that of a very young child, with red hair set in two heart-shaped odango, and blue eyes. One day, she mysteriously appeared at the Tsukino family home and somehow made Ikuko Tsukino believe that Chibi Chibi was her daughter, similar to what Chibiusa had done on her first appearance. Only Usagi's memory was left intact.

Chibi Chibi's vocabulary was limited to a few simple words (the most frequently used was "Chibi" (ちび), meaning "little" or "mini", hence her name) and repeating what other people said.

Kinmoku (August 1, 2007)

The planet Kinmoku (キンモク) was the homeworld of Sailor Star Fighter, Sailor Star Healer, Sailor Star Maker and Princess Kakyuu in Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.

Not much was known about the planet, aside from the fact that it was situated somewhere in the galaxy, and that it was destroyed by Sailor Galaxia. At the time of the destruction, the injured Kakyuu fled, eventually landing on Earth, and in the care of Chibi-Chibi. To find her, the Starlights disguised themselves as men.

Very little information was given about Kinmoku prior to its destruction by Galaxia in either the anime or the manga....

Chieko Kawabe (September 1, 2007)

Chieko Kawabe (河辺千恵子) was the actress who played Naru Osaka/"Sailor N" in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, and Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury in several musicals.

Together with Miyuu Sawai, she was an exclusive model of the LOVE BERRY junior fashion magazine (both were graduated). As a well-trained artist of her agency, which also doubles as a comprehensive artist training institution, she is currently specializing in the vocal artist field, and has performed several opening and ending themes for different TV anime: "Sakura Kiss," the opening for Ouran High School Host Club; "Hoshi ni Negai o" and "Cry Baby," the ending themes for Otogi Zoshi; and "Be Your Girl," the ending theme for Elfen Lied....

Lilica Hubert (October 1, 2007)

Lilica Hubert was a transfer student at Chibiusa's school. She was a very pretty girl who was popular with her schoolmates, and supposedly the daughter of an ambassador, but was actually an enemy. In the anime, she was an innocent girl under the unfluence of a Lemures from the Dead Moon Circus, but in the manga she was a vampire with no affiliation to the other enemies of the Sailor Senshi.

In the anime, Lilica appeared in the SuperS special as a new transfer student at the school. Ishihara and then Kuwano walked her home after school, but would end up missing afterwards. This, along with some of Lilica's strange behaviors, made Chibiusa suspicious....

Prince Demande (November 2, 2007)

Prince Demande was the head of the Black Moon Clan. He oversaw an attack on Crystal Tokyo in the thirtieth century.

In the anime, the people of the Black Moon Clan refused the purification offered by Neo-Queen Serenity at the formation of Crystal Tokyo, and were subsequently banished to the planet Nemesis. Prince Demande led his people as they sought revenge on the people responsible for their banishment, despite the fact that he was infatuated with the Queen.

When Demande went to the past and encountered Sailor Moon, he recognized her as the past form of the future queen and kidnapped her, but she was saved by Tuxedo Mask. When she and the other Sailor Senshi made a frontal assault on the forces of the Black Moon he found her again and tried to use his powers to force her to love him, but his efforts failed....

Eudial (December 2, 2007)

Eudial was the first member of the Witches 5 to appear in the Sailor Moon S season and Infinity arc. She showed tremendous expertise in computer programming and inventing weapons. Her powers were fire-based.

In the anime, Eudial's mission, given to her over the phone by Professor Tomoe, was to locate Tokyo civilians with pure hearts. Eudial created a program on her computer to observe the lives of everyone in Tokyo and select the most likely pure-hearted candidate. To extract these pure hearts, Eudial constructed a gun that would shoot a projectile of energy and force the Heart Crystal out of the target.

After her computer selected her target, Eudial would pack a Daimon into her car (a white station wagon with the Death Busters symbol on the side) and drive out of the laboratory. Eudial's car would emerge from a secret entrance (in increasingly sillier areas of Tokyo), and she would drive off extremely erratically. Eudial had unfortunate luck in that her targets were nearly always acquaintances of the Sailor Senshi, and she was usually prevented from stealing the Heart Crystal by them....

Kirari Super Live (January 1, 2008)

Kirari Super Live was a live-action musical performance starring the cast of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. It was held May 2, 2004 at Yomiuri Hall, and a DVD/VHS of the performance was released on August 27. The video included the live performance as well as two behind-the-scenes specials with the cast.

Attendance at the event was limited to the winners of the "Sailor Moon Campaign." To enter the contest, people sent in proof-of-purchase symbols from PGSM merchandise that they had purchased, and a lucky few (approximately 1,000) winners were selected from the entries....

Sera Myu (February 2, 2008)

Sera Myu is a common abbreviation referring to a series of Sailor Moon musicals staged in Japan between 1993 and 2005. Many of the productions were based on plotlines taken from the anime and manga, while others were based on original stories. To date, the Myu has had 29 separate productions with over 800 total performances.

The name "Sera Myu" (セラミュ / seramyu) is an abbreviation of the words "Sailor Moon musical" (セーラームーン・ミュージカル / sērāmūn myūjikaru) as they appear in katakana.

The Sailor Moon musicals' stories were based upon the original anime and manga versions, but sometimes drew upon totally original ideas, such as the Kaguya Shima Densetsu ("Legend of Kaguya Island") musicals and the Dracul series. Frequently the producers fleshed out concepts from the anime or manga that were never developed, such as a relationship between the four Inner Senshi and the Shitennou, as well as the unrequited love of Sailor Pluto for King Endymion.

It was common for songs to be reused in later musicals, or for some to appear in every musical. For instance, "La Soldier" was performed as a curtain call to every show. The Kaiteiban was another major aspect of the musicals. Generally, new musicals ran in the summer, and then a Revision was performed the following winter. The basic plot stayed the same, but revisions often had rearranged scenes or songs, small plot elements expanded upon, and actresses who were "graduating" (a term used when a cast member leaves) often had more solo parts and/or speaking lines.

The most recent production, Shin Kaguya Shima Densetsu (Kaiteiban) - Marinamoon Final concluded in January 2005. According to BMO, the official fanclub, the musicals are currently on a "short hiatus," but as of yet there have been no signs that any new musicals will be made.

Sailor Neptune (March 4, 2008)

Sailor Neptune was the eighth Sailor Senshi introduced in the series. Unlike the original Inner Senshi, she was not awakened by the moon cats in 20th Century Tokyo, but rather awoke on her own. Her civilian identity was Michiru Kaiou, or Michelle in the dub.

She was introduced in the Sailor Moon S season of the anime and Infinity arc of the manga. Sailor Neptune fought alongside her partner and lover Sailor Uranus in defending the Solar System from outside threats. In both versions of the story, she was elegant, sophisticated, capable of sharp anger, and sometimes cold. She was fully dedicated to her duty as a Senshi.

Sailor Neptune was given specific titles throughout the various series, including "Soldier of the Deep Waters," "Soldier of Embrace," and "Soldier of Affinity." Her personality was no different from when she is a civilian, although certain powers are unavailable to her in that form. Her respective element was the sea or ocean (not just water in general like Sailor Mercury).

Jadeite (June 1, 2008)

Jadeite, the first of Queen Beryl's Shitennou to appear in the series, had the appearance of a young man with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was handsome and used his charisma in his ploys to gather energy for the Dark Kingdom.

Jadeite's mission, given to him by Queen Beryl, was to collect energy for Queen Metalia. Generally, his modus operandi dealt with drawing energy off of masses of people, rather than targeting individuals like so many other of the enemies did. As an example, he posed as a bus driver and captured entire tour buses, then drove them into an alternate dimension where he could collect the energy of the passengers.

Though he would often disguise himself in many of his plots, he would always employ a Youma that was able to not only disguise itself as a human, but could perform well enough to not be discovered by those close to it....

Star Seed (February 1, 2009)

A Star Seed, introduced in the fifth and final season, consisted of a very small glittering sphere enveloped in a transparent crystal. When a human was hit by the golden energy blasts produced by Sailor Galaxia's bracelets, a flower appeared above their head or in front of their chest and opened to reveal the Star Seed. Every single person in the galaxy possessed one, but there were two kinds: those belonging to ordinary people, and those belonging to Sailor Senshi. Common people had "weak" Star Seeds which turned black right after being forcefully exposed, and a person whose Star Seed had turned black became a Phage. Those belonging to Senshi had a permanent shine, and were called "true" Star Seeds, or, in the manga, they were known as Sailor Crystals. Each planetary body in the galaxy was represented by its own Star Seed, and the Sailor Senshi of that planet was its carrier. If a Senshi's Star Seed was taken out of their body, the Senshi disappeared, which was equivalent to dying. However, a Senshi could continue to exist without their Star Seed as long as they wore Sailor Galaxia's bracelets. If a Star Seed was retrieved, the Senshi could be revived in physical form....

Bloody Dracul Vampir (December 16, 2009)

Bloody Dracul Vampir was an original character in the Sera Myu Dracul arc. She was the daughter of Count Dracul and his deceased bride Le Fay.

Vampir was first mentioned in Last Dracul Jokoku during a conversion between Professor Tomoe and Death Lamia, but was never seen in the musical. When she heard of her father's death in Transylvania no Mori, she joined with Lilith of Darkness in order to seek revenge against the Sailor Senshi, as well as the opportunity to revive her mother with the power of the Silver Crystal.

Vampir was born half human, half vampire (also known as a Dhampir), and because of this, she had the power to kill vampires....

Anza Ooyama (March 17, 2011)

Anza Ooyama (大山アンザ), currently known as ANZA (アンザ), born May 4, 1976, in Nagasaki, Japan, was the first actress to play Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon in the Sailor Moon musicals. Her first show was the original 1993 Sailor Moon - Gaiden Dark Kingdom Fukkatsu Hen, and her last show was the Final First Stage Eien Densetsu (Kaiteiban) in 1998. Dark Mercury (August 14, 2011)

Dark Mercury, who has also been referred to by the unofficial nicknames of Darkury or Dark Sailor Mercury outside of the series, was the evil form of Sailor Mercury who appeared only in Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. She first appeared in Act 21, after Sailor Mercury was kidnapped and brainwashed by Kunzite.

At first, she appeared like a normal, but cooler Ami (dubbed "Akumi" (悪美; meaning "Evil Beauty") by the series production staff). But shortly thereafter she transformed into Dark Mercury, much to the horror of the other Sailor Senshi.

She was often disrespectful toward Kunzite and the other Shitennou, and even to Queen Beryl. She could, however, show kindness, such as when she repaired Nephrite's cape.

Dark Mercury returned to normal in Act 28, after realizing that she had hurt Sailor Moon. After that, Ami had no memories of what she did as Dark Mercury.

Rainbow Crystals (July 12, 2014)

The seven Rainbow Crystals, or Nijizuishou (虹水晶), were present only in the anime. They were separate sections of the Silver Crystal, which came apart when Queen Serenity sealed away the Dark Kingdom's greatest warriors, the Seven Great Youma, during the attack on the Moon Kingdom in the Silver Millennium. Their colors were: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. They were sealed into six humans and one cat, each of whom were eventually tracked and attacked by members of the Dark Kingdom. Once the crystals were removed from their bodies, the carriers became the Great Youma they had the connection with. Sailor Moon was able to return them to normal with Moon Healing Escalation.

Not all of the rainbow crystals fell into the Dark Kingdom's hands; the Sailor Senshi and Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru managed to obtain some of them. However, ultimately the minions of the Dark Kingdom got the crystals the Senshi possessed, so that Mamoru and the Dark Kingdom had all of them between them. The Dark Kingdom sought them to reawaken the Seven Great Youma, while Mamoru sought them because he was having dreams that indicated they would help him find the Silver Crystal and regain his lost memories.

Sailor Moon Drops (August 24, 2016)

Sailor Moon Drops is a mobile phone game first released in Japan in September 2015, with an English version released in April 2016. It is a match-three puzzle game, where the player has to clear different colored gems from the board in order to achieve the level's objective, similar to games like Candy Crush. Each level allows only a certain level of moves with which to complete the objective; any moves left over at the end will earn bonus points.

The player begins with only Sailor Moon as a character, and as they advance through the levels they will see short episodes that follow the story of the series. Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus join Sailor Moon as playable characters during the course of the story, as the Sailor Senshi fight the minions of Queen Beryl, while the civilian forms of the Senshi can be obtained through special time-limited events.

The English version currently goes through the end of the Dark Kingdom arc, but the Japanese version includes levels up into the Death Busters arc.
