==Summary==
[[Sailor Mercury]], [[Sailor Mars]], [[Sailor Jupiter]], [[Sailor Venus]], [[Luna]], and [[Artemis]] stand outside the [[Juuban Odyssey]] complex that is being covered by the [[Makaiju]]'s roots. Sailor Venus tries to break open a way in with [[Crescent Beam]], but Sailor Mars stops her, as she senses that the Makaiju is sentient. When she touches a root, the Makaiju moves to let them in. When they enter the building, however, the tree traps them inside a room and spits acid at them, hurting Luna. Sailor Mercury uses [[Sabão Spray Freezing]] to freeze the surroundings, and Sailor Mars blasts a hole in the wall with [[Fire Soul]]. The Senshi flee through the hole into an elevator that will not move, and they climb through the hatch on top of the elevator to escape the roots.

[[Usagi Tsukino|Usagi]] and [[Mamoru Chiba|Mamoru]] are held captive by the tree on top of the building. [[Ail]] stops them from trying to touch hands and is forced to admit his "love" for Usagi in front of [[An]], who becomes jealous, although Ail claims the love he feels for Usagi is different from his love of An. They both start discussing and order the Makaiju to only steal [[Energy#Ail_and_An|energy]] from their respective rivals, but when the tree obeys them both, they scream to it to stop and even throw insults at it. A grunt seems to come from the Makaiju, which releases a wave that blasts the aliens, then it finally loosens its grip on both Usagi and Mamoru.

The [[Inner Senshi]] and the moon cats appear on the roof, and are immediately attacked by Ail and An, who easily block Sailor Mars's [[Fire Soul Bird]] with their combined powers. The other Senshi are stopped before they can prepare their next attack, and Ail and An laugh as their energy blasts make them and the cats squirm in pain. Usagi transforms into [[Sailor Moon]], and the aliens are shocked to discover her secret identity. Sailor Moon kneels down besides Mamoru and takes his hand, asking him to remember her, [[Princess Serenity|Serenity]], the [[Moon Kingdom]], and all the times Mamoru saved her as [[Tuxedo Mask]] after they were reincarnated on [[Earth]]. Mamoru, barely conscious, clasps Sailor Moon's hand for all answer, and Ail and An both realize their love was never returned. An attacks the couple in an angry outburst and Ail bids farewell to Sailor Moon before ordering the Makaiju to obliterate the entire [[Earth]], as he no longer has any lingering affection for the planet.

Mamoru wakes up, and Sailor Moon's words seem to stir some memories in him. An orders her to shut up, and her next attacks send both Sailor Moon and Mamoru flying along the roof, but Sailor Moon shields Mamoru this time, saying she will risk everything, even her life, to protect him. While An continues her attack, Ail is touched by how much Sailor Moon and Mamoru care for each other, and finally understands what love is and how it cannot be won by force. The [[Moonlight Knight]] appears and stops An from attacking Sailor Jupiter. An yells at him that neither of them know anything of the suffering and solitude they had to endure for an eternity, and that they learned to take what they wanted by force because it was their only known way to survive. Furious, she blasts the Moonlight Knight against the Makaiju, and the tree reawakens, sending its roots against the aliens. An jumps in the way of a root to protect Ail, receiving a lethal blow in the process. She tells Ail that she loves him before she dies in his arms, and Ail cries out her name as the Makaiju directs its roots against him. Sailor Moon begs the tree to cease the attack, and the Makaiju abruptly stops and begins to talk.

The Makaiju opens its mind to Ail and the Senshi to show them the story of Ail and An. The Makaiju grew on a desolate planet for eons, and to give itself company, it gave birth to a race of aliens who, in the beginning, coexisted happily and peacefully with each other. But they began fighting among themselves for power and ended up destroying their home planet, so the tree and the survivors began wandering through the universe in search of a new suitable home. Now the only members of their race left are Ail and An, who grew in fear of others and never knew true love. As everyone leaves the mind of the Makaiju, it tells Ail that what it needs to survive is love, not energy, as it tried to make them realize by drying up its own body. The Makaiju asks Sailor Moon to purify it with her power of love, and it disappears in an intense flash of light when she uses [[Moon Princess Halation]].

As the light fades away, the Moonlight Knight appears and reveals his real identity to Sailor Moon: though Mamoru's memory of the Sailor Senshi was lost after the battle at [[D Point]], his unconscious desire to protect Sailor Moon was so strong that it manifested itself in the form of a projection he called the Moonlight Knight. He says that since Mamoru's memory is now coming back, his work is done. He bids "adieu" one last time and merges with Mamoru, who wakes up and finally recognizes Sailor Moon. An comes back to life in Ail's arms, and the Makaiju returns as a small sprout. Ail and An fly away to find a new planet where they can plant the Makaiju and make it grow again with the energy of their love. Sailor Moon and Mamoru watch them go, certain that this time Ail, An, and themselves will find happiness. As they embrace, the girls pop in, jokingly reproaching her friend for showing her boyfriend off in front of them.
