Link to the section "Some of Her Latest Bits of Info" in a previous version of the "Talk:Chisaki Hama" page - a backlog of raw data during Chisaki Hama/Rika Izumi's hiatus till her comeback:

Ah... what to say? Ok, my SN is "210" because my address begins w/ "210". I've been an anonymous user for a while before creating this A/C, so I think it'd be easier for you to recognize me as the same person. Another reason is that it's easy to type on my on-screen numeric pad instead of typing my board SN ("Rika-Chicchi"), as I've forseen that I'll be logging in & out here frequently.
I may add stuff here in the future. For now I think this is sufficient for me to protect this user page from bot attacks & avoid the embarressment of appearing on the front page. lol

Profile
Since many of you have done this I'm following suit.
- SN: Rika-Chicchi
- Age: Old
- Sex: Male
- Look: Tall, thin, small head & large eyes (like bishonen in manga? Well, if you could imagine how the exact replicas of Takeuchi Naoko's (武内直子) characters would be like in the real world, you'd know I'm more like an ET, tho my face is a bit like Hama Chisaki (浜 千咲) in some of her shots - but not most other ones)
- Hair: Black but w/ plenty of white hair (so much that it's too much even for my old age - I started to have white hair during my low teens)
- Eyes: Deep brown
- Interests: Many; just from the top of my head - swimming (can swim 25m in freestyle w/o breathing), movie[1] (last one I've seen is Superman Returns - so moved while seeing the nostalgic opening credits & the late Marlon Brando), J-pop/rock[2] (currently listening to Ohguro Maki's (大黒摩季)), cycling (haven't done for a very long while), etc.
Hope not anyone of you would be spooked by the category at the end of this page.

Notes
2006
[1] Watched Lady in the Water yesterday - not a very good film, but some of the writer's ideas are interesting, tho they're not executed satisfactorily in the script.
[2] Currently Imai Miki's (今井美樹).
--210 20:31, 17 August 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched United 93 this morning - very realistic & depressing. More than a decade ago, I read that some interpreted terrorism as the Anti-Christ. I begin to buy this idea in the recent yrs, wondering if terrorism (from all backgrounds & in all forms) really is it: Satan needn't work in just one side, it could work in multiple, opposing sides simultaneously. Sorry if I've depressed any of you. m( _ _ )m
[2] Just finished listening to the 70s classic Blue Light Yokohama (ブルライト ヨコハマ; new version by former Speed Uehara Takako (上原多香子)).
--210 01:01, 31 August 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched The Banquet yesterday - a big production of my home country, quite entertaining but boring at times. Planning to watch DoA next week (yeah, I love crap films :P ).
[2] Currently listening to a compilation of J-drama theme songs around the turn of the century (Zoo ~ Ai wo Kudasai (Zoo ~ 愛をください) & To Love You More pwn!).
--210 23:16, 14 September 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched no movies lately. Could've watched "Gore's film", but I think we might have already passed the threshold & triggered the planet's irrevokable warming cycle, on which human activities could no longer have critical impact of either directions, i.e. it's too late.
[2] After the selected 80s'/90s' J-drama theme songs (Squall, Fall in Love, etc.), now listening to the 60s'/70s' ones (they own! lol).
--210 06:08, 13 October 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched WTC today. Somewhat like re-experiencing the events & their attached images, feelings, emotions, etc., even tho I was hardly involved.
[2] Still into the theme songs of the 60s'/70s' classic dramas like Sugata Sanshiro (姿三四郎), Sign wa V (サインはV), Keiji-kun (刑事くん), G-men '75, Oku-sama wa 18 Sai (奥様は18歳)... Also, 3 Nin no Kazoku (3人の家族), Futari no Seikai (二人の世界)...
--210 04:52, 19 October 2006 (MST)
[1] Planning to watch Pulse this week. Might talk about it here afterwards.
[2] Returning to the classic songs of the 80s/90s: Ame (雨) & Watarasebashi (渡良瀬橋) by Moritaka Chisato (森高千里; also redone by Matsushita Moeco (松下萌子) & Matsuura Aya (松浦亜弥; "Ayaya"), respectively), Aoi Usagi (碧いうさぎ; !) by Sakai Noriko (酒井法子), & Tomorrow by Okamoto Mayo (岡本眞夜; good for listening when you feel down), among many others.
--210 18:31, 5 November 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched Pulse today. As expected, a typical youngsters' cyber horror flick, tho it does provoke some thoughts about the vulnerability of the global info network to threats even more horrible than the ghosts in the film. lol
[2] Bought Kimura Kaela's (木村カエラ) 2nd album released this yr. A former Seventeen model (?) & relative newbie, she's nonetheless backed up by an A-team of production crew, & sounds like a decent J-rocker - Lilula Liluha (リルラ リルハ) rocks (pun included)!
--210 04:31, 10 November 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched A Battle of Wits, an international film collaboration btn China, Japan & South Korea, basing on a Japanese manga, & set in the Warring States Period before the unification of China 2 millennia ago (a bit like the much later similar period in Japan, or pre-war Europe). It mentions the thought of Mozi, one of the rival ideologies of Confucianism at the time before the latter becomes official in a unified China, hence also in Korea & Japan. Starring Asian mega star Andy Lau (better known in the West in House of Flying Daggers).
[2] Listening to Kiroro's best album released this yr. This Okinawan duo is formed by 2 long-time good friends (they even got preg at the same time lol), whose self-written songs are beautiful w/ simple arrangement & a bias in piano. Highly recommended.
--210 06:34, 24 November 2006 (MST)
[1} Watched eragon. Its plot & characters have a number of parallels w/ Star Wars IV altho it's not SF genre. Nevertheless it's still entertaining, & I love dragons. lol
[2] Listening to a past album of Ohguro Maki (大黒摩季). Love the song Sora (空), a theme song of a 90s Japanese anime about a young chef during a hypothetical historical period in China. Her credit appeared at the start of the opening, an unusual practice, as she was a big-name vocalist at the time (nowadays it's more common for top singers to do theme songs for popular anime). The song isn't Chinese-styled & actually is rock, which isn't unusual especially nowadays - a recent historical TV drama about the concubines in the shogunate also used rocks (even w/ English lyrics!) as its theme songs.
--210 03:25, 14 December 2006 (MST)
[1] Watched Curse of the Golden Flower. It's all about a (lethal) family feud. Too bad it's an imperial family, which means numerous non-family members, i.e. imperial court officials, conscripts, etc., who actually comes from the pool of the emperor's subjects, also have to die for it. It's set in the latter days of the Tang Dynasty in China (decades to the end of the 1st millennium). The dynasty boasted one of the peak eras of Chinese power (military, political, economic, cultural, etc.), characterized by a relatively open autocracy, a cosmopolitan capital, a sphere of influence deep into Central Asia & other regions, sexy women's costumes, etc., & one of the periods when Japan sent a large number of personnels to China to learn practically everything. This big-budget Chinese film, however, is not about those glorious days even tho they're indirectly reflected. It's about sex, love, hate & bloodshed. Starring Chow Yun Fat, Gong Li & Jay Chou (the Asian heart-throb who's also a credible R&B singer-songwriter). Directed by Zhang Yimou. A spectacular movie but the script is somewhat hollow.
[2] Listening to Matsuda Seiko's (松田聖子) 25th Anniversary album. Not a big fan of her but she's a representative icon of an era, w/ a number of memorable songs, e.g. Seifuku (制服).
--210 00:22, 22 December 2006 (MST)
2007
2007 (1)
[1] Watched Deja Vu. A lil bit cliche (or "deja vu") in the story, but I'm a sucker of stuff concerning time, & Denzel Washington is cool as usual. Too bad Batman becomes a fat man, & Jesus becomes the bad guy. lol
[2] Listening to Kawashima Ai's (川嶋 愛) 1st solo album released last yr. A high school street singer turned contract singer-songwriter, she was the "transparent voice" of the now-disbanded duo group I WiSH, w/ a specialty on modern city folk songs.
--210 04:29, 8 January 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched 300. Felt like reading a comic book (& it's based on one). Actually the film is largely "drawn" - digitally. Hence, my comment is: great graphics. lol
[2] Listening to the original version of Sera Fuku to Kikanju (セーラー服と機関銃; "Sailor Fuku and Machine Gun"), the theme song of the same-title movie, by Yakushimaru Hiroko (薬師丸ひろ子), the big idol of the 80s who also played the lead in that movie.
--210 05:11, 16 March 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched Sunshine. Loving it, or more accurately, loving such movie genre for so many yrs., & seeing Sailor Mercury is an extra bonus. lol
[2] Listening to ZARD's 15th Anniversary double album. I love Sakai Izumi (坂井泉水)! (Her appearance could be a perfect fit for playing the lead character in the live-action version of Takahashi Rumiko's (高橋留美子) 80s manga Mezon Ikkoku (めぞん一刻); concert clip - I could envision the whole audience singing along w/ her; a PV clip - you can get a glimpse of her daily works; a random song another concert clip - a big hit, tho not my most favorite, but it's good to listen to when you feel down.)

2007 (2)
[1] Watched 28 Weeks Later. Talk about culling of humans, infected or not, like culling of poultry to stem an epidemic. Too bad the "symptoms" are too zombie-like, killing the plausibility &, hence, horror (zombies are also more comical than horrible nowadays). But I like the British settings (that also partly explains why I like the Omen trilogy).
[2] Listening to Koda Kumi's (倖田来未) 1st best double album, which contains a number of her earlier hits, like Cutie Honey (the current latest one of the numerous versions throughout the decades), Butterfly... She looks hot on the CD jacket, but that's not the reason I bought it. lol
--210 07:22, 11 May 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Like it. It's simplistic & cheesy, but that's sthg that I need right now.
[2] Listening to Kiroro's album (see above) again - I need their soothing songs lately.
--210 05:47, 14 June 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched Die Hard 4.0. Glad to see that this "old man" still kicks ass - let's see how another one will be doing in the upcoming latest instalment of the Raiders series (haven't watched Stallone's, & Arnie is unlikely to do it ATM).
[2] Listening to Matsuda Seiko's (松田聖子) album (see above) again - ahhh... the age of innocence. *sigh*
--210 01:04, 28 June 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched Transformers. I don't think I've ever watched 1 whole anime episode, & that includes a footage of it in the film Leon, when Natalie Portman's character was watching it. So you know how big a fan I am, even tho I've been a fan of 70s/80s giant robots. But I'm very interested in this film, partly 'cos of Spielberg, partly 'cos I'm curious about how Hollywood interprets Japanese giant robots. And it doesn't disappoint me, even tho it's a bit cliche. It's also got a theory for interpreting the concept of "transformation." Strangely, this film kinda reminds me of an earlier Spielberg film, Batteries Not Included.
[2] Gonna listen to Itsuwa Mayumi's (五輪真弓) special commemorative album. She's an important figure in J-pop history.
--210 23:53, 25 July 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched The Invasion. Altho many of its ideas & patterns aren't new, & can actually be traced back to some 70s/80s scifi B movies, it's still thought-provoking on some age-old questions about what it takes to be "human," e.g. is evil an essential/indispensible part of human nature?
[2] Just finished listening to Tokyo Jihen's (東京事変 / Tokyo Incident) 1st album. Shiina Ringo (椎名林檎) & her crew's works are always excellent demos/reference materials for anyone interested in music arrangement.
--210 03:04, 23 August 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched Resident Evil: Extinction. So Mad Max feel, also w/ traces of Alien: Resurrection & Hitchcock's The Birds. Milla rocks - love her since The Fifth Element (I generally like actresses w/ East European origins lol).
[2] Listening to a Yaida Hitomi (矢井田瞳; "Yaiko") album. She's a good J-rocker (watch her clip linked in the section below).
--210 04:13, 5 October 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched Beowulf. It reminds me that heroic legends in history are often exaggerated, or worse, outright lies to conceal a dark truth. Nice to see Sir Anthony Hopkins half-naked, lol tho it might be just CG, which is used extensively in this film. Good theme music/song. That Angelina monster kinda reminds me of another one in Species.
[2] Listening to Shimatani Hitomi's (島谷ひとみ) latest album released earlier this yr. A versatile vocalist crossing over various music genres from classical music, rock, Latin, to J-pop oldies/traditional Japanese music, she's also quite sexy - not the racy kind (watch her clips linked in the section below).
--210 03:30, 15 November 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched The Warlords. A historical epic set in the latter days of the Qing (pronounced like "ching") Empire of China, or more precisely, during the suppression of the Taiping Rebellion ("Taiping" meaning "Great Peace"), which was an attempt to establish a Christian theocratic state in China (in a sense, it did succeed w/i a limited space & time). Altho the Qing was one of the most powerful dynasties in Chinese history, the very fact that it took more than a decade to suppress this insurgency had exposed its underlying corruption & grave weaknesses in the eyes of rising Western powers & Japan, hence hastening its demise. As usual, all these are but a historical backdrop for a story about betrayal, infidelity, sex, & personal political ambition in this Chinese blockbuster. Starring Asian mega stars Jet Li, Andy Lau, & Kaneshiro Takeshi (he looks great in the film!) - kudos to whoever brought these guys together! There're a number of Christian/Biblical references peppered w/i the film, & the younger Empress Dowager, arguably the most powerful woman on Earth at the time, besides perhaps Queen Victoria, appears in the film, tho you can't see her face outrightly. lol
[2] Listening to a compilation album of Yamaguchi Momoe's (山口百恵) all-time greatest hits. She's of the same generation of great artists as Sakurada Junko (桜田淳子; see the 1st links in the section below).
--210 01:08, 14 December 2007 (MST)
[1] Watched I Am Legend. Surprised by the theme it touches on near the end (haven't expected that in such films), even tho the ending itself isn't surprising. The visuals are spectacular, as expected. lol
[2] Still listening to the album mentioned in the last update above.
--210 00:10, 17 December 2007 (MST)
[1] Alas, watched The Golden Compass. A beautiful film, & it's also anti-establishmentarianist - such themes I like. No wonder why some Catholic organizations (BTW, I dislike organized religions as much as organized crimes lol) bitterly oppose it. lol Nice to see Christopher Lee again since Star Wars - very like him, & Eva Green looks magnificent (she's also currently on the cover of Vogue).
[2] Listening to Morning Musume's 10th Anniversary double album. Yeah, I do listen to their songs. lol Like them or not, they're kinda an "institution" that can't be ignored in the J-pop scene (& pop culture generally), w/ its operating formula imitated inside & outside Japan. Altho it's lost some of its shine, it's historically significant in that it's helped many Japanese go thru one of the longest & worst economic doldrums since WWII, & has become a collective memory - one of their songs could even be seen as an alternate national anthem. Now that the Japanese economy seems to be hanging in the balance again after rebounding in recent yrs., could they, w/ their 2 new members unprecedentally recruited from China (one of them could only barely speak Japanese when she joined), play a historical role again, for Japan or even Sino-Japanese relations? We'll see. For now, it's all good listening to their songs like kid songs (some of their members are really kids, & many elementary school kids are also their fans).
--210 01:51, 27 December 2007 (MST)
[1] Finally at the end of the yr., watched AVP2. Again, you can see the 2 cult monsters (& a hybrid of the 2) fighting, & also have a brief glimpse of the homeworld of the Predators (not a bad place indeed). For fans fluent in the Alien series like myself, you'll get a nice lil surprise at the very end (hint: note how those senior ranking generals call that apparently powerful Japanese woman - got it? ^^ ). Overall rating: better than expected.
[2] Listening to ZARD's 1st fan-request best album (the 2nd one will be released early next yr.). If you don't know what/who ZARD is, see my previous note about it/her & this section above. BTW, it/she was mentioned in the editorial note of Daily Yomiuri last week.
--210 00:24, 31 December 2007 (MST)
2008
[1] Watched Cloverfield. Having watched so many Toho/Tsuburaya giant monster flicks since my childhood, it's good to see a Hollywood one done from a more "ground level" perspective. Wonder why Ultraman didn't appear in these occasions. lol (There was an Australian one, Ultraman Great, in the 90s, tho.) Altho the entire film is shot like (& supposed to be) the playing of a palmcorder tape, it can still manage to follow the typical story development of such genres. The exact origin & biology of the monsters (quite disgusting, BTW) are left to the audience to ponder, but on the whole the film is pretty good & entertaining. Whereas the horrors & destruction of WWII spawn Japanese monster films like Godzilla, those of 911 spawn American films like this one, which also uses NYC as its stage.
[2] Listening to the soothing voice of Nakashima Mika (中島美嘉) in her recent album, Yes. All Hands Together was produced w/ the people of New Orleans for raising local reconstruction funds after Katrina, but the number which attracts my attention most is her cover of the late Ozaki Yutaka's (尾崎 豊) classic I Love You. Her English cover of What a Wonderful World (yes, that English classic) at the end is also a nice touch. Highly recommended.
--210 04:00, 17 January 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched The Mist. A horrible, sad, & thought-provoking film. This time, at least we've got a more definite idea about the origin of the disaster. lol Haven't read the original, dunno whether the screenplay closely adheres to it - if so, Stephen King, you've scared the shit outa me, again. lol
[2] Listening to Nakajima Miyuki's (中島みゆき) 2nd latest album. This brilliant singer-songwriter, who holds a degree in Japanese literature, has been a huge figure in the Japanese music industry for decades, wielding great influences on generations of singers & fans as far as other parts of East Asia, where one is likely to have listened to her works even w/o having heard her singing. Her well-written lyrics is often regarded as the voice for contemporary Japanese women. Her numerous beautiful melodies have also become the collective memories in the region. Her powerful yet feminine voice is unique & iconic.
--210 03:42, 25 February 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched 10,000 BC. It turns out to be more dramatic/superstitious than academic/scientific & what I've expected, hence I'm disappointed - I thought it'd be like that TV series of the same title that I watched when I was small, & that, while being a dramatization, has an academic flavor, e.g. how our ancesters 1st discovered that adding salt into food could make it more tasty, etc. The plot is cliche & stupid, but the visuals are spectacular.
[2] Listening to Shimokawa Mikuni's (下川みくに) recent double album of her covers of classic 80s/90s anime songs. It's so T_T . lol
--210 02:13, 11 March 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched An Empress and the Warriors. Set in a B.C. historical period before the unification of China (somewhat like Europe in the last centuries, or Germany & Italy before their respective unifications), this Chinese epic contains lots of battle/action scenes, but it's essentially a love story, & its themes are kind-hearted & well-meant. It features a pacifist warrior-princess (formally becoming a young Empress only at the end) of a northern military state (located around today's Beijing), who was also willing to give up powers for the man she loved (consider it the female counterpart of Britain's Edward VIII lol); conspiracy, betrayal, & bloody palace coup; & beautifully executed martial arts (the director was a renowned actions director). Starring Kelly Chen (a Chinese Canto-pop singer who also releases Japanese CDs & appears on TV/movies in Japan), Donnie Yen (a top kung-fu master-actor), & Leon Lai (another Canto-pop singer better known as one of the "Shitennou" of Canto-pop in the 90s).
[2] Listening to Aikawa Nanase's (相川七瀬) 1st album. I like "girl's rock," tho the girl has become a mother for some time now. lol She's still active w/ new CDs & live concerts nonetheless.
--210 03:38, 26 March 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon. Yet another historical epic, but I really like this heart moving one much. This Sino-Korean production is set in the latter days (3rd Century A.D.) of the Period of the Three Kingdoms, when China was broken up into 3 independent states after a long period of the 1st heydays of a unified China, altho the film only focuses on the feud btn the kingdoms of Zu (in Southwestern China) & Wei (in northern China & Korea), both of which wanted to reunify China under its regime (the Zu king even claimed his legitimacy w/ his sharing of the same family name w/ the former imperial court, tho that's always been doubted by historians). More specifically, it's the feud btn an invincible but aging Zu general in his last great battle, & a young, brilliant Wei commander, who was the grand daughter of the late Wei king & was eager to avenge a military humiliation inflicted upon her grand dad by the Zu general when she was a child. Ironically, China wasn't ultimately reunified under any of the 3 states, but by Jin, which came into being after a coup in Wei. lol Starring Andy Lau, Sammo Hung (the famous chubby kung-fu master), & Maggie Q (that booty hot chick in Die Hard 4, lol tho she's become a shrewed military strategist & expert in psychological warfare in this film; she still looks sexy during her brief, heavily stunted one-on-one combat w/ Lau, tho). The story of the Three Kingdoms has fascinated numerous fans in East Asia throughout the centuries to this day, & has become a chic pop culture in Japanese manga, gashapon figures, computer games, etc. One last note: the helmets of the Zu & Wei armies look like those of the British & German armies, respectively, during the 2 World Wars. lol
[2] Listening to a compilation album of 70s/80s female vocalists. What a sweet nostalgia! lol

[1] Watched Iron Man. Very entertaining, tho the color scheme of that suit of the American superhero looks a bit Chinese - wonder if that's why this blockbuster opened on Chinese soil on a date even earlier than in the States. lol
[2] Listening to an album of Arisaka Mika's (有坂美香) 1999-2006 anime song collections. Both she & her songs are the premium of their kinds. The jacket cover is also very artistic. Recommended.
--210 04:15, 5 May 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched Doomsday. So Escape from New York feel, tho the sealed area isn't NYC, but the whole Scotland! And the mission isn't the rescue of a US Prez. Also, the role played by Kurt Russell is replaced by a female army maj., altho, like the former, she's also single-eyed, & her vest also looks like Russell's. lol This grim film suits my current state of mood after the recent disaster in my country - excerpt of my private message at a forum:
I'm safe, since I'm not in central China. But, save for a few northern provinces, the quake has literally rocked the whole country despite its size (it's only slightly smaller tban the States), Actually it can even be felt (w/o instruments) outside China, e.g. S.E. Asia, Pakistan, etc. Our PLA men & women (also our Premier) have rushed to the scene (which is vast) & are now working round the clock (the 1st 48 - 72 hrs. are crucial - after that the chance of finding survivers is slim), but their efforts are complicated by heavy rain. T_T
[2] Still listening to the Arisaka Mika album mentioned in my last entry above - it also works excellently for my current mood.
--210 03:19, 15 May 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. "This old man, he plays 4," or rather "3 old men, they play 4." lol By & large it's applying the same old formulae. A bit cliche, a bit cheesy, but still entertaining nonetheless.
[2] Listening to a compilation album of 70s-90s divas. It's the 3rd one of the set. Feels so good!
--210 04:11, 23 May 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched Red Cliff. Again, a story about the Three Kingdoms (see above), but this time the Kingdom of Wu is muchly involved, & the story ending will only be in part 2 (like Kill Bill). This Chinese epic is also a multi-national (mainly Chinese, Japanese, & American) collaboration both on-screen & off-screen. Starring mega stars like Tony Leung, Kaneshiro Takeshi, etc., w/ notable supporting cast like Nakamura Shidou, etc. Directed by John Woo, known in the movie industry of the West for having directed some Hollywood blockbusters. Won't go into more movie details this time (no time), but it's worth watching.
[2] Again, listening to disc 2 of the abovementioned double album of Shimokawa Mikuni, which contains her own works.
--210 07:01, 14 July 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. A big Hollywood production in collaboration w/ some large Chinese studios & featuring some prominent Chinese actors, most notably Jet Li & Michelle Yeoh. It has reference to the B.C. Period of Warring States in China, & that "Dragon Emperor" is obviously modelled on the 1st Chinese Emperor, even tho it's not meant to refer to him per se. A very entertaining film - just don't think too much while watching it like a live-action cartoon. lol
[2] Listening to a triple album of J-drama theme songs around the turn of the century.
--210 07:01, 2 August 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Lots of references to the previous 6 Star Wars movies peppered thruout this CG animation movie, but the only things memorable to me are that cute young Padawan of Anakin Skywalker, that cuddly baby/toddler son of Jabba the Hutt, that old freighter looking like a larger version of the B-wing fighter (my most favorite fighter in the Star Wars universe), & that thrilling voice of Christopher Lee. Still an entertaining film for a 12-yr.-old, or 1 trapped in an (much) older body like myself, tho - as actually are the previous 6. lol Another notable point is that there's a fairly large Chinese participation in the production of this movie.
[2] Still listening to the same triple album mentioned above last time.
--210 01:16, 22 August 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched Painted Skin, a big-budget, Oscar aspiring horror film based on a classic Chinese literary work, collaborated by a number of production companies/studios around the country. It's most notable for its team of renowned production staff in art direction, photography, etc., tho its cast is also strong. As a horror film, it also has military & martial arts action scenes, & a very beautiful & moving, if albeit complicated, love story plot entangling 6 human & demon characters, all of whom have a beautiful mind (the 2 demons are essentially animals: a beautiful white fox & a dessert lizard - even the latter looks beautiful to me, as I always adore exotic lizards lol). The ending is surprising since, until the last minute, things have become so hopeless & sad for all the characters w/ their unconditional, sacrificing love (I was on the verge of tears then lol). 1 last note: for those who enjoy seeing a beautiful woman taking off all her clothes, this film can satisfy them even more - they can see 1 casually taking off all her skin, head-to-toe, like a body suit. lol The melody of the theme score is also beautiful.
[2] Listening to Horie Mitsuko's (堀江美都子) 30th Anniversary triple album - never got tired of listening to her songs again & again.
--210 00:50, 2 October 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched City of Ember. A lovely, beautifully executed film about a dream-like - if nightmarish at times - post apocalyptic world, w/ meaningful, thought provocative themes but nonetheless a plot centered on kid adventures (the leads being 2 young teenage boy & girl), hence essentially a film for kids (& adults w/ a kiddy mind lol). The BGM is strong, & the theme score is beautiful & powerful. Some notes of fun include Bill Murray's character's huge, pregnant-like belly (lol) & that cute giant mutant moth.
[2] Listening to a recent album of Shimatani Hitomi (島谷ひとみ), an elegant, sexy lady w/ a distinct voice.
--210 06:12, 30 October 2008 (MST)
[1] Watched The Day the Earth Stood Still. Beautiful male & female leads, lol w/ a good story idea (just don't be too concerned w/ issues in the details). The visual effects aren't as great as expected, tho. Haven't watched the original film, hence can't make the comparison. Keanu's spoken Chinese is horrible - obviously the alien can speak good English but not Chinese. lol Seems that the business suit has become his staple in movies. lol
[2] Listening to Nakamura Ataru's (中村 中) 1st album. She's a very good singer in various pop genres - ballad, rock, jazz, etc. Love her voice & the way she uses it - her voice in some fast-paced songs sounds like her previous male voice, tho, but is still good nonetheless. Will also buy her 2nd album.
--210 06:20, 11 December 2008 (MST)
2009
[1] Watched Red Cliff II. It's actually not a sequel, but the 2nd part of the film. After a powerful recap of some important scenes from the 1st part during the opening credits, the film's climax has already started at the beginning, w/ the princess of the Wu Kingdom, donning a Wei army uniform, spying in the field camps of the Wei army. The plots are wonderful, tho the main ones are actually from history, lol but the scriptwriting team did manage to create a number of clever subplots under them. There're many things about this film that can be talked about, but won't do it here (some have already been covered in my previous comments on the film's 1st part above).
[2] Listening to Nakamura Ataru's (中村 中) 2nd, latest album (also see my previous comments on her 1st album above). The good quality is as expected, & she sounds totally feminine in all the numbers this time.
--210 03:42, 15 January 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Valkyrie. A thriller based on a real story about the last assasination attempts against Adolf Hitler by some very senior officers in the German military. Even tho the events depicted are history, the movie is still a nailbiter. It also reminds me of the palace coup against Chairman Mao's widow & her close associates, the so-called "Gang of Four," commanded by a field marshal, signed by Mao's designated heir, & invisibly masterminded by the one who, technically, was still disgraced & purged then, hence radically changing the course of modern Chinese history & creating the China as we know it today. The situation of those German officers is comparatively more difficult, tho, & they also failed, but their plan is nonetheless ingenious & clever, further strengthening my respect to the honorable, knightly traditions of the German military since its Prussian times.
[2] Listening to a past album of My Little Lover - love their mesmerizing sound.
--210 03:49, 12 February 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Watchmen. Muchly like it right from the beginning, from the opening credits... & so on. While the story is set in a past era of an alternate timeline (in which "that bastard" got 3 presidential terms, America won in Nam, etc. lol), it's actually also reflected very much about the American psyche of today on this timeline, making it a good (& entertaining) extra-curricular material for any students of American studies. As for the film, it's kinda like a more adult, muchly darker version of The Incredibles, & I also think superheroes, if they really existed, should be like that.
[2] Listening to Kawashima Ai's (川嶋 愛) recent double best album. I love her "angel's" voice! ^^ BTW, she was the vocalist of I WiSH.
--210 05:56, 12 March 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Can't believe that I'm so loyal to the franchise that I watched it even w/o Kate Beckinsale in it! lol It's a prequel, which explores more on the political & socio-economic conditions of the vampires, as well as their relations w/ humans, wolfmen, &, of course, the Lycans, who're the hybrid of the former 2. Central to the plot is a love story btn a vampiress, who's among the tops in the vampires' political & social hierarchies, & a Lycan, who's a "pet" of the vampires' supreme leader. I'm hopelessly addicted even tho I think the chance of yet another instalment to the franchise is slim. lol
[2] Listening to Ayaka's (絢香) latest album. I love the voice of this young J-R&B vocalist - very emotional & mature for her age. Recommended.
--210 05:14, 26 March 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Knowing. A spooky film which has raised the issue of randomness: I've always suspected that random stuff, such as the exact changing patterns of rising smoke, aren't actually "random" at all - they just look & feel random to us, since we don't have God's perceptive capabilities. Hence, no random numbers are actually random, whether they're generated by computers or not, not to mention lottery draws, etc. Back on the movie, I like its ending being not too cliche, tho it's a bit simplistic. And what the film explicitly says will happen this year could really happen, as y'know, anything could happen. lol
[2] Listening to Angela Aki's (アンジェラ・アキ) latest album. Like this Italian American-Japanese singer-songwriter. A few of her works are musical, even a bit opera like, & one of her songs has already become a set song in the Japanese junior high school music curriculum.
--210 02:41, 16 April 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Angels and Demons. A very entertaining film - just don't think too much but enjoy the more-than-2-hrs. roller-coaster ride. It's a pity that the female lead isn't too useful in the plot this time, except for being a pretty face in the film. lol Wonder if such pop fiction/movie could, ironically, revive the interests in the Roman Catholic Church, which has been steadily shrinking towards ultimate irrelevance.
[2] Listening to Shiina Ringo's (椎名林檎) recent double album, which contains a number of her English covers as well as some of her best numbers in her past 10 yrs. - I've been suffering from "apple poisoning" for yrs. lol
--210 05:56, 15 May 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Terminator Salvation. Very happy to see Michael Ironside & Helena Bonham Carter, my two favorite actor/actress, in it. Also delighted to see the Governor reprising his classic role again, in all his awesome nudity, tho I can understand that he's currently busy in public services, hence what's seen is just old footage & stunts. The plot is interesting, w/ a trace of ideas from the Governor's another blockbuster, Total Recall.
[2] "Low battery," hence not listening to any song ATM. lol
--210 22:34, 29 May 2009 (MST)
[1] Finally have watched Star Trek. Much better than what I've expected from its trailer. Not that the trailer itself is bad - it's good & attractive - but it gave me the impression that it's just a sci-fi teen flick straying very, very far from the original series. And it turns out that the movie stays very true to the spirits & core tenets of the original despite its modern appearance. And since the timeline has already been tempered w/ at this early stage before the tons of stories in the original, any possible inconsistencies/contradictions of this movie (as well as any sequels to it) w/ the original can easily be explained away - how clever! Very glad to see Nimoy again! Also long time no see Winona.
[2] Listening to Ayaka's (絢香) latest album again. I always feel the similarities btn her & the early-day Hikki - both are young & talented J-R&B vocalists w/ a matured voice relative to their young age, & both got married young during the taking-off stage of their career - I just hope that her marriage will be a successful one, & wouldn't turn out like Hikki's.
--210 02:23, 5 June 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched The Haunting in Connecticut. Not having watched horror movies for some time (have somewhat got tired of them), but while this heavily American-styled one actually isn't as scary as I expected, I've found it very heart-warming & really like it.
[2] Still listening to the same album mentioned in my preceding update lol - her music is so not boring.
--210 07:45, 18 June 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Orphan. An interesting but also creepy movie - our local censors have to enforce a strictly 18-or-over rule on it (minors can watch many movies featuring nudity, sex, & violence over here, even tho that's officially not recommended). I also guess the producers had to arrange a psychologist for the girl actress (& possibly other supporting child actors/actresses as well) on the set.
[2] Not listening to any CDs ATM. : P
--210 09:26, 27 August 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Surrogates. Interesting idea, & seeing the young looking Bruce Willis is a delight! There're many pretty faces (& bodies lol) of both genders in the film (as required by the plot). A relatively short, but actions/effects packed & thought provocative film - recommended.
[2] Listening to an earlier album of Shimatani Hitomi (島谷ひとみ). Among her broad variety of musical genres, I particularly like the numbers arranged w/ a heavy symphonic presence (her preceding album was even recorded in Russia for that), & this album also isn't lack of those.
--210 11:29, 27 September 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched District 9. Another good piece of work. Its idea isn't entirely novel, tho - the film Alien Nation (& its spin-off TV series) has already explored about a similar theme - but this one has added a number of new interesting, intelligent, & thought provocative elements, which are also well presented in it. Its style is a bit like Cloverfield (mentioned in a previous entry above) - but not exactly/totally - making the story feel very realistic. It's also incorporated ideas from other films, such as The Fly. The ending also leaves one to ponder about what'd happen next. Another recommended film. One final note: while those alien refugees are referred to as prawns in the film, I also find them looking like roaches, especially for their long, moving antennae lol (trust me, those humans in the film are, non-appearance-wise, way more ugly/disgusting than them).
[2] While the album mentioned in the preceding entry is still in my player, I didn't play it. lol
--210 09:06, 3 October 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Founding of a Republic. Tho it's a (modernized) propaganda film, I can still find it interesting in how it presents (& not presents) the historical facts, & in its numerous implicit references to contemporary Chinese politics (& still being able to pass thru the censors - or is it actually a deliberate decision by someone at the top of political power? lol). If you don't wanna think too much like myself, you can still enjoy its spectacular scenes, special/CG effects, stylish filming, &, of course, the many, many stars in it, such as Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Ziyi Zhang, to name just a few. Modern-day propaganda is, well, quite modern nowadays. lol
[2] Continuing to listen to the aforementioned album & loving it very much. ^^
--210 05:57, 5 October 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Whiteout. A good thriller starring my favorite actress Kate Beckinsale.
[2] Listening to a compilation album of J-pop rare tracks from the late 70s to the mid-90s by female vocalists. Now that's genuine singing!
--210 08:25, 9 October 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched 2012. It's surprisingly better than I expected (or maybe my expectations on it were so low? lol). Its spectacular visuals are as expected, tho. It's also clever in making use of an on-going factual event in my country as its plot device. As usual in watching films like this, forgetting/ignoring its "science" always makes you a happier audience. ^^
[2] Listening to Kudo Shizuka's (工藤静香) old Super Best double album. A funny thing is that I can hear, as a nostalgia of the 90s, a number which's in turn a nostalgic nod to the 60s. lol
--210 01:01, 13 November 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Mulan. No, it's not that Disney animation movie, lol but a realistic, dark, bloody, & sad Chinese live-action production, in which the brilliant title character was quickly promoted to the rank of General & became the 2nd-in-command (later the 1st) of her unit. At the end of the film she was offered the post of Commander-in-Chief by the Emperor, but declined it because she wanted to return to her home village to look after her ailing father, for whom she was enlisted in the military in the 1st place. Starring some of the most prominent actors/actresses in China, the film also shows some military strategies, logistics, management & training, etc. of the time.
[2] Still listening to that double album mentioned in the last update above. lol
--210 23:35, 3 December 2009 (MST)
[1] Watched Avatar. Obviously, Aliens has still cast a big shadow on this latest work of James "King-of-the-world" Cameron decades later, even tho the two films have different themes. I can still enjoy it despite his self-plagiarism, tho. And very nice to see Sigourney "Alien" Weaver again - always appreciate this actress (BTW, have yet to know any other person named "Sigourney" lol). I'm very sad after watching it, but it has nthg to do w/ its ending - it's reminded me of a chronological table of future history I compiled many years ago, which's intended to be a skeleton of a novel (which've never been written, tho), & in which I wrote that after the discovery of a technology to get around the light-speed limit, Homo sapiens had "spreaded around the universe like viruses." BTW, story-wise it's quite feasible to produce a sequel of this film.
[2] Still listening to that double album mentioned in the last update above. ^^; (Have changed to disc 2, tho. lol)
