Do we know how she came to fear them?  Is it just her particular phobia, or is there an Indiana Jones type story behind it, or was she up late one night watching the Japanese dub of Damnation Alley, or Mimic, or Men in Black and then fell asleep and had a nightmare about flesh eating cockroaches?  Do we know how she reacts when she encounters one?  Let's say she and Hotaru are sitting around a table having dinner with perhaps a guest and la cucaracha flies right down onto the table next to her plate.  What exactly will happen?  Will she faint, run screaming into the night, dig her nails into the table and try to rip the tablecloth apart, grab her lip rod or maybe Hotaru try to beat it to death, transform and blast it with the Dead Scream, what?  It's fine if there no canon on this little detail, and I'm free to make something up.  I just don't want some mouth breathing Umino to come along later and say "that's not how she reacts." ;)  "[[User:Moonstruck|Moonstruck]] 07:29, 24 January 2007 (MST)"

Super Beryl's voice

Does anyone know who voiced Super Beryl, the Beryl/Metalia fusion from the end of the first season? Was it Keiko Han, Noriko Uemura or some clever combination of both voices? Dooky 20:48, 30 June 2006 (MST)

Kinda late, but I went and watched episode 46, and the credits don't list a voice for the "Super Beryl" but her voice sounds like Keiko Han's, doubled over by a computer. Sailor PFA ☾Talk☽Contributions 15:08, 15 August 2006 (MST)
Ah, nice to get some feedback on this at last ^_^ I did wonder if it was maybe Uemura and Han's voices overlaid on each other somehow... which would be a nice idea, but thinking about it might have been considered unnecessarily complex. Listening back to it now, it does sound more like Keiko Han than Noriko Uemura... dooky 16:19, 15 August 2006 (MST)

Mamoru's university

Most sites claim Mamoru attends K.O./Keio University, but where is this actually mentioned? Is it a manga thing? I ask because the only reference I can fid in the anime is the map enclosed in the second S Nakayoshi guide. This identifies K.O. University as Mamoru's university, but it should be pointed out that the university had never appeared in the anime up to that point. Furthermore, some other info on the map contradicts anime canon, such as the Diamond Kingdom being changed back to the D Kingdom (as it was in the manga). Now, I thought I'd finally figure this out by watching the SuperS episode with the dance at the university. But here, the name appears on a poster as Touzai (東西) University. The uni is also briefly seen in the episode with Kobayashi and Saori, but I don't think there's any identifying text there. So... Mamoru's university in the anime appears to be Touzai, so does he attend K.O. in the manga? I seem to recall he was younger in the manga anyway... Could someone please clear this up as it's driving me nuts. Dooky 20:48, 30 June 2006 (MST)

I can't recall very well >.< But ir seems that Mamoru was younger in the manga...he was still in school (Motoazabu) in the first season. He does still use the school uniform in the 2nd season. After that, I'm not sure... Kasumi
He attends Moto Azabu at first but then succesfully enters K.O. I think in Dream. But I definately remember seeing K.O. University in the manga in reference to Mamoru. GracieLizzie 01:32, 1 July 2006 (MST)
As far as I know, the university in the Dance episode is not stated as being Mamoru's school. Also, the grounds of the campus in the episode with Kobayashi/Saori are Keio's.--WikiSysop 10:26, 1 July 2006 (MST)
Well, I've just checked the dance episode and Mamoru does seem to refer to it as 'our college'. Could be a translation ambiguity... however, going back to the Saori episode, it seems that this is indeed Mamoru's university. This is a screencap of Mamoru's university as it is seen at the end of the Saori/Kobayashi episode. It's the only establishing shot we get and it is never named onscreen. This is a screencap from the beginning of the dance episode: it's clearly the same building. Finally, here is a screencap of the poster displaying the university's name. I've looked around for some pictures of Keio University, and they do share some design similarities, so it's conceivable that Touzai was based off Keio, and they just happened to change the name. Does anyone know if the university ever appears again in the anime? If so, I can investigate further. Dooky 12:05, 1 July 2006 (MST)

My mistake about him saying it was his school in that episode. Touzai is definitely supposed to be Keio; I don't know why the name was changed but I could have sworn during the first two seasons that at some point they referred to Mamoru's or had a sign for it listed as "K University."--WikiSysop 20:23, 1 July 2006 (MST)

According to a map from the S Memorial Album, it's "KO University" in the anime as well. It looks like the nameplate is an animator screw up in the SuperS season.--WikiSysop 20:33, 1 July 2006 (MST)
The only time I can recall seeing a university in the first two seasons is during the Reika/Motoki episode, but that was Azabu Technical College (which apparently only Reika attends). It is weird though, because the map in the S Nakayoshi guide does have K.O. listed as Mamoru's university... and not only had it not appeared in the anime at this point, he wasn't yet attending it in the manga either. The earliest reference I can find to KO in the manga is in the Viluy chapter, when Setsuna, Reika and possibly Motoki are shown as students there. Mamoru joins in the first chapter of SuperS. Hmm. I suppose the Nakayoshi guides were released after the relevant series, so maybe that explains it... although if that was the case, why didn't they use Touzai, the name they'd established in SuperS. Bah, it makes no sense.
In any case, these are apparently the universities of the uni-age characters in the anime and manga as far as I can make out. Don't know about PGSM, so feel free to add them if you know them.
  • Mamoru: Touzai University (anime), K.O. University (manga)
  • Motoki: Touzai University (anime), K.O. University (manga)
  • Reika: Azabu-Juuban Technical College (anime), K.O. University (manga)
  • Setsuna: K.O. University (manga)
There is a question here of what takes precedence, canon-wise. I'd take an on-screen reference from the anime over something that was in a guide (since the guides do occasionally contradict the series, on matters such as the name of Dia's country and the Edwards/Edward thing). Should we include Touzai in the article for K.O. or have separate articles for each? Name change or not, it does seem that Touza is based upon Keio...
- Dooky 20:59, 1 July 2006 (MST)

Go with Tozai as Keio, perhaps noting the KO Reference from the Memorial Book. If we find anything else later we can always make changes.--WikiSysop 01:33, 2 July 2006 (MST)

Romaji of the 1st Name of the Actor Playing Sugao Saitou

As Dooky has queried its current pronunciation but isn't 100% sure, could someone familiar w/ the language enlighten us? Thks! 210.245.162.185 01:07, 1 July 2006 (MST)

Thx Phibby for settling the case. It's "Narushi". 210 06:40, 2 August 2006 (MST)

Stars anime guide

It's a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone has a copy of this? (you'll have to copy and paste the link) It's the only Stars anime reference work in existence, and it seems to be much rare than the anime albums. There may be a SuperS equivalent of this as well. I don't know how exhaustive these books are but they could be a valuable source for item names, etc. Dooky 19:59, 4 July 2006 (MST)

Recent issues about WikiMoon

Don't know where to put this so I put it here.

(1) Admins pls goto Shigeru Yanagawa and see what happens, the poster's address also starts w/ "210" but it's not me.

(2) In the past few days, I've experienced lengthy response times. Don't know if it's server problem or traffic jam, or if it's just me (tho my response times of accessing other sites are normal). Yesterday I'd actually created an A/C (SN: "210"), but when I logout, it took so long that it expired w/ an error msg, hence I dare not login again. Anyone?

210.245.162.185 19:07, 7 July 2006 (MST)

Sorry for posting the above msg in the wrong place. Now I know where to put it. You may move it there or just leave it here. 210.245.162.185 19:34, 7 July 2006 (MST)
Strictly speaking this isn't the place, but what the hell, I'll leave this here for now. In answer to your questions...
  1. I've fixed the Yanagawa thing. It was most likely just some bewildered new user checking if the site really is editable. I've put up a messgae pointing out their error (should they return). If they do it again we'll see about taking action, but for the time being I'm not going to class it as vandalism.
  2. Not sure what's been up with the site but I expect it's just a server issue. It's still a bit sluggish but things seem to have improved. Incidntally, your account does seem to have been created. I suggest you try logging in again, I suspect it will be fine. Dooky 20:10, 7 July 2006 (MST)
Thx! But it takes so long for me to log in & out, so I'll just stay anonymous till the sys improves. 210 20:33, 7 July 2006 (MST)
Are you on a public computer? Unless you have the 'keep me logged in' box ticked, the site should log you out automatically after a while. Dooky 20:42, 7 July 2006 (MST)

^ I'm on a public phone. ^^; And no, I haven't ticked that box. 210 20:52, 7 July 2006 (MST)

Site slowness is due to GoDaddy. For some reason, GoDaddy does not host its mysql databases on the local server but rather on seperate servers. Sometimes the connection between the file host and the mysql host seems to be strained but there's nothing I can do about that unless someone decides to donate to us a dedicated server and whatnot.--WikiSysop 06:00, 8 July 2006 (MST)

I didn't even know GoDaddy offered hosting services, I thought they just had cheap domains. Oh well, sounds like I'm better off only getting domains from them and not their servers if mysql isn't run off their local server. In any case, I'm only using a fraction of my disk space and bandwidth on the server I'm using now, so I'm willing to have WikiMoon moved onto it. Drop me a note or e-mail and we can get everything setup for moving. I have today off so I'll be around all day it looks like and can get things done today if interested. --MarioKnight 11:46, 8 July 2006 (MST)

Is the slow sys response time lowering the level of activity today, or is it just coincidence? 210 06:22, 9 August 2006 (MST)

I wasn't around much last night, but the site seems to be running okay at the moment. It did get pretty slow yesterday though. dooky 07:01, 9 August 2006 (MST)

Rei's father's name

Could someone provide it? Thx! 210 23:05, 13 July 2006 (MST)

I don't think he was ever named, was he? Dooky 02:29, 14 July 2006 (MST)
I know he wasn't named in the anime or live action, not sure about the manga. Elanorea 04:49, 14 July 2006 (MST)
I don't think he appeared in the anime. Haven't read the manga in detail so can't tell. No idea about myus & games. And I'm sure that his name wasn't mentioned in the live action. HOWEVER, I'm not sure whether his name appeared in the live action's credit or official literature (as per Mizuno Saeko), hence my question here. Don't know whether it's in my dreams, I think I've seen his name before. Anyway, thx for your responses. ^^ 210.245.162.185 05:34, 14 July 2006 (MST)
Yeah, someone needs to look through the PGSM credits. I didn't know Ami's mother had been named, but I recall Naru's mother was identified as 'Mayumi'. Dooky 07:47, 14 July 2006 (MST)

^When I was just walking as usual today, my memory had suddenly resurfaced from nowhere: "Takashi"!! (Or it could be "Ryoji", as my memory of his name is constituted of the 2 kanji characters only, since his name has never been in audio form.) Sorry, I can't type the kanji here. But Japanese experts, basing on your experience, which pronunciation is more likely? 210 03:21, 15 July 2006 (MST)

Now I think of it, both "ryo" & "shi/ji" are based on Chinese pronunciation, whereas "taka" is the indigenious Japanese pronunciation. The 2 systems of pronunciation usually don't mix together within a word or name. Could this mean that "Ryoji" is more likely? Or in accordance to some Japanese naming convention, "Takashi" is? 210 03:43, 15 July 2006 (MST)
I think "隆司" is the rendering you're looking for. Most sites seem to have this as "Ryoji", but I don't think 隆 is ever pronounced Ryo - it can, however, be pronounced as "Ryuu". So that's his name, but the jury's still out on the pronunciation. According to WWWJDIC it could be Takashi, Takaji, Takamatsu or Ryuuji, although Takashi seems to be the most common. Dooky 04:10, 15 July 2006 (MST)
You got the correct kanji!! Actually when I recalled the kanji of his name, my instinct gave me the pronunciation of "Takashi". But when I googled "Hino Takashi" to confirm it, I couldn't find it. Instead, I got "Hino Ryoji" at the Shingetsu site. I also felt the "ryo" pronunciation of the kanji a bit awkward, but since the site was co-authored by a Japanese (SN: Wasurenagusa), I went w/ "Ryo" accordingly. And yeah, it should be "Ryuu" if it's pronounced like that. Thx for your help. m( _ _ )m I'll go w/ "Takashi". 210.245.162.185 04:49, 15 July 2006 (MST)

Rei's mother's name

lol Anyone knows if it exists & if so, what's it? (Tho I bet it doesn't exist, just a precaution in case I'm wrong.) 210 00:18, 16 July 2006 (MST)

I believe Rei's mother's name was Risa. -- DENelson83 01:44, 16 July 2006 (MST)
Bugger me, you're right! Apparently her name was seen on a gravestone in PGSM episode 17. I'm kind of curious as to why she'd be buried in a Christian cemetery given that she's from a Shinto family, but I bet someone has an explanation... Dooky 02:35, 16 July 2006 (MST)
You beat me DENelson!! ^^ I've totally forgotten that! And thx for reminding me. Dooky, PGSM hasn't told about her family religion. 210 04:02, 16 July 2006 (MST)
Wait a minute -- wouldn't she have been cremated instead of buried? Under Japanese law, that's what should have been done to her body after she died. -- DENelson83 11:29, 16 July 2006 (MST)
I believe cremation is the norm, but there are certainly cemeteries where the ashes are buried. But I haven't seen PGSM so any context is lost on me. Dooky 12:13, 16 July 2006 (MST)
There doesn't have to be an actual body present for someone to have a gravestone... Kerochan no Miko 14:24, 16 July 2006 (MST)

There are cemetaries all over Japan. No bodies are buried there. The ancestral family gravestones are there, and the families come to pray to the souls of their departed family members. Where I live in Tokyo is known as the "cemetary belt" and there are many near my house.--WikiSysop 14:54, 16 July 2006 (MST)

There's also a large Minato-ku cemetary called Aoyama (blue mount) Cemetary, if I remember the name correctly, indicated on the map in Pt. II of the S media book. 210 18:34, 16 July 2006 (MST)

Sailor Planet Power vs. Sailor Planet Attack

Anyone know the differences between these two commands? -- DENelson83 01:45, 16 July 2006 (MST)

It's kind of ambiguous, but Sailor Planet Power basically involves combining powers to overwhelm some other power (it was used to counteract the gravity beam of Rubeus' UFO). Sailor Planet Attack has the same buildup, but the combined power is then targeted at a specific enemy. Generally I classify SPA as an attack, while SPP is a magic ability along the lines of Sailor Teleport. Dooky 02:30, 16 July 2006 (MST)

Name of the actor playing Kenji-papa

He only appears in the Special Act & is 1 of the 4 (?) directors of PGSM, but I've forgotten his name, & even if I could recall all the directors' names, I'd still not be sure which one is his. Could someone help? Thx. 210.245.162.185 04:54, 17 July 2006 (MST)

I was going ask this too. I'll ask over at the Genvid boards, see if anyone there knows. GracieLizzie 05:24, 17 July 2006 (MST)
Thx! ^^ 210 06:19, 17 July 2006 (MST)
Found it! [1] :) Apparently he play a few bit parts, anyone know which? GracieLizzie 13:43, 17 July 2006 (MST)
Thank you Gracie!! He's the director of some earlier episodes. About the bit parts, that nerd teacher isn't him. He's an assistant director (forgotten his name). The other one I've no idea. 210 17:17, 17 July 2006 (MST)

Nanae Sumitomo as Sailor Venus

In the credits of episode 163, both Rica Fukami and Nanae Sumitomo are credited as playing Sailor Venus. Does anybody know any background to this? Kae Araki's stint as Sailor Moon is common knowledge, but I've never heard this mentioned by anyone. dooky 06:44, 2 August 2006 (MST)

Gender changes

Just a little something I'm trying to set up for the Did You Know section. The major characters to undergo sex changes for the NA dub were Zoisite, Fish Eye and Zirconia. The only minor characater I can think of right now is Tamasaburou, but I'm pretty sure there are more. Can anyone remember any others? It'd be nice to have a definitive list. dooky 07:40, 14 August 2006 (MST)

Well, if other dubs count, the Portugese dub is kind of infamous for switching the genders of Luna and Artemis. --Rosen 07:54, 14 August 2006 (MST)
Also apparently in Korea the Starlights were always female.[2] About the Portuguese Luna/Artemis sex switch... that's always puzzled me, I mean that must have meant the S movie must have never been dubbed... or have been difficult too. GracieLizzie 08:22, 14 August 2006 (MST)
Well, not that difficult if the Portuguese could made it like the Starlights. lol 210 18:42, 14 August 2006 (MST)

PGSM Senshi Shoulder Pads

Anyone knows starting from which (early) episode they were upgraded? 210 00:46, 24 August 2006 (MST)

I'll keep an eye out as I go through the episodes... Kerochan no Miko 08:48, 24 August 2006 (MST)
Thx. 210 18:21, 24 August 2006 (MST)
Answer is here. 210 21:38, 21 September 2006 (MST)
And comparison pictures here. Kerochan no Miko 22:47, 21 September 2006 (MST)

A bunch of questions

  1. When the Silver Crystal changes shape and color in S (don't know if it ever does in the manga), is it still referred to as the Silver Crystal? Or is that a completely different crystal, while the Silver Crystal is kept elsewhere?
  2. Are the Sailor Animamates' tails and Eternal Sailor Moon's wings real, or just part of their costumes?
  3. Does the "TARDIS" phone booth work like its Doctor Who counterpart? (The latter is no longer broadcast in Russia, and I don't have access to any episodes).
  4. Do the Senshi have access to hammerspace in civilian forms? In some episodes, they seemingly produce their transformation items out of nowhere, given that they couldn't have hidden them in whatever they were wearing at that moment...
  5. Is purification mandatory in Crystal Tokyo? From the wording here, it seems that the future people were given the ultimatum of purification or exile, which, as I feel, gives the story some Orwellian overtones that probably weren't intended by Naoko... A quick Google search reveals that there are many fanfics out there that portray Crystal Tokyo as a dystopia, so it's probably not just me.

- Sikon 13:25, 13 January 2007 (MST)

  1. Are you talking about the S movie? Because if you're referring to the crystal inside the brooch, I always assumed that the pink heart-shaped thing was just covering the Crystal and wasn't the Crystal itself - it was definitely never given a different name. Maybe by that point the Crystal went back inside her body; it couldn't've been that star inside of her Eternal brooch.
  2. I'm fairly sure that the Animamates' unusual body parts were part of them; they were from other planets, after all, I'd say tails and wings wouldn't be surprising. And since ESM could fly with her wings, I'm guessing those were real as well.
  3. Haven't seen Doctor Who, no help there.
  4. I personally think they have some kind of hammerspace, but there was nothing ever said canonically.
  5. As far as I've seen, purification was mandatory. And yes, there are a ton of dystopian-Crystal-Tokyo 'fics out there.
Kerochan no Miko 13:38, 13 January 2007 (MST)
  • Considering the wings: she never flew with those wings... It was the Light of Hope that gave her credibly-looking wings, with which she was able to fly in the final episode, but those didn't come with her usual Eternal outfit. - Sikon 13:59, 13 January 2007 (MST)
Not true - see episode 170, where she flew in her ESM outfit. Kerochan no Miko 14:21, 13 January 2007 (MST)
Maybe the wings in her ESM outfit operate as the functional parts of her costume (as per Janet Jackson's lol), not as her body parts? --210 21:16, 13 January 2007 (MST)
That...doesn't make much sense. And are you suggesting that she flies with a decorative part of her costume? Might as well say the bow on her back will let Sailor Mercury fly. Sailor Moon had wings show up in her transformation for quite some time before they actually stuck around in her Eternal form; I don't see why they wouldn't be actual wings. Kerochan no Miko 21:33, 13 January 2007 (MST)
If the flight-capable (as being seen) wings are part of her ESM outfit, then they're not merely decorative. And I wasn't discounting the possibility that they're body parts - I was just suggesting another possibility. (Also note that the wings of ESM are located lower (like a back bow) on her costume than the ones seen in her previous transformations, so they might not be the same wings.) --210 21:55, 13 January 2007 (MST)
Then I don't understand what possibility you're suggesting. They're part of her costume but they're body parts as well...? Kerochan no Miko 22:25, 13 January 2007 (MST)

^ No, they're mutually exclusive. What I meant is: possibility 1 - body parts, as you've suggested above; (EXCLUSIVE) OR possibility 2 - costume parts w/ flight capability, as I've suggested above. And I'm not ruling out either possibilities (reread my last comment). --210 00:10, 14 January 2007 (MST)

Trust me, I read your comment several times and still didn't get it. And how does a costume let one fly, unless said costume is a hang glider or something? Kerochan no Miko 07:53, 14 January 2007 (MST)
Not a hang glider. It's the "something" - the wings attached to her costume (hence could be viewed as part of it) could've a flying function (don't ask me the exact engineering mechanism of how it's realized lol). --210 22:43, 14 January 2007 (MST)
  • Actually, in episode 170, she is elevated straight upwards by some "pixie dust" (I can upload a clip if needed). The wings don't appear to be involved, neither do they move. I'd say that being in the Eternal SM mode is what allows her to fly, not the wings in particular. Of course, it's all just speculation. It might be that they intended the wings to be real, but abandoned the idea after the Nehellenia arc... - Sikon 07:01, 14 January 2007 (MST)
I've seen the episode (which is how I know what happened in it), and I refuse to believe that ESM flies by means of magic pixie dust. I know this is a show in which schoolgirls transform into champions of love and justice and throw magic energy hearts around, but pixie dust is just stretching my credulity a little too far. :P Kerochan no Miko 07:18, 14 January 2007 (MST)

Setsuna Question: Is there any story ....

... behind Setsuna's "deathly fear" of cockroaches? Or is it just one of those things? How "deathly" is it? Where does one find this? Manga, character guide, something else?

If you would care to look at her character page you will find the source referenced in the footnotes. Kerochan no Miko 19:29, 22 January 2007 (MST)
Thank you. Nice idea this site. I'll try to contribute where I can. "Moonstruck 17:29, 23 January 2007 (MST)"
On another note, pls sign your comments by typing "~~~~" at the end. ^^ --210 05:45, 23 January 2007 (MST)
Certainly. I take it that anime album is in Japanese. Since I do not read or speak it, can you summarize the exact nature of the "deathly fear," and its cause if any, for me? I'd like to use it in something. "Moonstruck 17:29, 23 January 2007 (MST)"
She's...afraid of cockroaches. I really don't know what else there is to know about it. Kerochan no Miko 17:48, 23 January 2007 (MST)
I'd like to help, but have forgotten what it says about that, & can no longer access my book now. Any scan/link anyone? --210 17:50, 23 January 2007 (MST)

Is there any canon on how she came to fear them? Is it just her particular phobia, or is there an Indiana Jones type story behind it, or was she up late one night watching the Japanese dub of Damnation Alley, or Mimic, or the X-Files, or Men in Black and then fell asleep and had a nightmare about flesh eating cockroaches? Is there any canon on how she reacts when she encounters one? Let's say she and Hotaru are sitting around a table having dinner with perhaps a guest and la cucaracha flies right down onto the table next to her plate. What exactly will happen? Will she faint, run screaming into the night, dig her nails into the table and try to rip the tablecloth apart, grab her lip rod or maybe Hotaru try to beat it to death, transform and blast it with the Dead Scream, what? It's fine if there no canon on this little detail, and I'm free to make something up. I just don't want some mouth breathing Umino to come along later and say "that's not how she reacts." ;) "Moonstruck 07:29, 24 January 2007 (MST)"
