Ofuda in Japanese culture are charms, wards, or scriptures that are said to bring the bearer good luck or protection as well as other things depending upon what is written on them, and are usually sold at Shinto shrines. In Sailor Moon they were mostly used by Rei Hino (either in her civilian form or as Sailor Mars) to freeze her enemies with her Akuryo Taisan attack, they were also a key part of Sailor Mars' Fire Soul Bird attack. Potentially, anyone with the correct training could also utilize ofuda in the Sailor Moon universe, as Sailor Venus once did in a side story in the manga.
The kanji "悪霊退散" (Akuryo Taisan) written on ofuda can be translated as "Evil Spirit Disperse."
