Shinozaki was an anime-only character who appeared in episode 49. He was Makoto's friend from her old school who had helped her get through being rejected by her senpai.
He saved Makoto from a Cardian, but was badly injured in the process, and Makoto donated her blood at the hospital in order to save him. When asked, Makoto said that he was not her boyfriend, but he was someone even more important to her.

- In the German dub and the Viz English dub he was named "Kenji."
- Despite her comments that he was not her boyfriend, and the fact that he only appeared in one episode, Makoto is sometimes paired with Shinozaki romantically by fans.
