Phage names[edit]

I know that some Phage names are disputed, due to the lack of any printed source and the fact that they're usually not listed in the credits, but the names given here are the ones the project will be using. In some cases, your VKLL subs most likely got it wrong. The 'Gekisha' in 'Sailor Gekisha' means 'dramatic photograph'. The 'Sailor Buri'/'Sailor Pretty' thing is more controversial but it's definitely not 'Pretty' - it's either Buri or Puri or maybe Purin. I know Ian Miller listed it as 'Buri' for years and I disagreed, maintaing that 'buri' (meaning yellowtail tuna) bore no elation to th character, and it was probably 'puri', an abbreviation of 'princess'. Just recently, however, I discovered that 'burikko' (which uses the same kanji) is a slang term for an overly cutesy woman, and I realised that Ian was probably right after all. Happy that I'd finally figured out, I then noticed that Ian had now changed his translation to 'Purin' >.> In any case, I believe the names here to be free of mistakes (I don't like 'Shippai Sakuda' one bit but I guess we're stuck with the bugger). In a sense this is like a mini-version of our approved lists of name spellings, since it will determine how the names of these articles are ultimately spelled. As such, feel free to debate these spellings but don't go making changes unless you're 100% sure of them. Thanks! Dooky 19:38, 7 July 2006 (MST)

Illustrations?[edit]

"This article is useless without pictures." Do you think we could get images of selected phage on this page? DENelson83 23:05, 7 July 2006 (MST)

Well, it's pretty skeletal at the moment anyway... it's mostly just a guide to their names right now. But eventually we'll have to spin this out further. Obviously there will be screencaps of Phage on the individual pages, so for here, how about some pictures illustrating the creation of a Phage? (The Star Seed popping out, those vine/tentacle things coming out of the ground, etc) I'm not in a position to take screencaps myself right now, since my computer's at death's door and I don't want to aggravate it any more than necessary, but if someone else wants to take screencaps, go ahead. Dooky 23:39, 7 July 2006 (MST)

I can make screenshots of all phages (any size) from the remastered version of Sailor Stars. How about these (I think they're of good size, neither huge nor very small):

pdvd0039tn.jpg pdvd0048sq.jpg

Later we can include more pictures to fit the descriptions of the phages' attacks =p.--StarFighter 00:47, 8 July 2006 (MST)

These are very nice. It might be necessary to scale them down a bit, though, since the infobox will take up some of the horizontal space on the individual pages. I want to include as many images as possuble, but I also don't want to swamp articles that don't have much text with lots of large images. Are you taking these caps from the new fansubs? Dooky 02:31, 8 July 2006 (MST)

Nope, I have the 6 DVD volumes from cdjapan. Yes, now when I look at them the shots seems a little larger than they possibly should be... I agree that a single image is kind of unsatisfactory... But now I'd like to draw everyone's attention to something else. ^^ As you have noticed, the different phages have different behaviour and character - some are wild and militant, while others are milder... So I decided to introduce a new category called (Phage) Malevolence Level (in %), which will reflect phage's readiness and will to fight. Do you approve the idea? ^^ For each phage there should be at least 2 photos - one with ith appearance and one while attacking. --StarFighter 02:59, 8 July 2006 (MST)

Thanks for rescaling the images... and I hope you'll be willing to take more screencaps, because these are great!
I took out the malevolence level because it's just based around individual opinions, and while these things are very interesting to discuss, they're not really suited for an encyclopaedia. But if you want to talk about the Phage's character in the article, there's no problem with that... in fact it would be a very good idea. Dooky 03:19, 8 July 2006 (MST)

it's just based around individual opinions - ah yes... when I think of it it may be arguable to what extent the phage is willing to fight... so it's really better without it. Specially for S.Buri I wanted to illustrate the bra thing by this image, but if you include it in the article I suggest that it's linked like this >> [1] People who haven't seen S.Buri's design may be interested to see it: kissbra7ap.jpg

Yepp, I will take caps of all phages, all the same size as Buri's. But I'm not sure whether to take just one or more per phage o_o.

Two would be great if you can do it. Do you think you could get caps of other guest characters as well? In the meantime I'll see about fitting that second image into the article. Dooky 04:14, 8 July 2006 (MST)

Yep I can. ^^ Which guest characters exactly? I'll try to choose 2 different pose/status of the same phage. Here are the phages so far (but not in order of appearance I think):

  • I stuck these in a table for ease of browsing. They're great, and I'm sure they'll come in handy. Regarding other characters: I'm thinking mainly of victims of the day, but also any other named characters in the episodes who we could conceivably have articles on - the likes of Misa from ep 186 (I think). Don't feel you have to do these all right now, though, as I'm sure it'll take us ages to write articles on this lot ^_^ Dooky 07:37, 8 July 2006 (MST)

Okay, I will at least finish the phages these days so that we have a complete collection of them. ^^ If you need some caps of items and accessories please let me know. I will also make pictures for identifying episodes, as I see most of the episode summaries lack a photo.

IPA pronunciations[edit]

I like the idea of using these... but unfortunately most of the relevant symbols won't display on my computer. Does anyone else have this problem? dooky 03:53, 1 August 2006 (MST)

You need a font that includes IPA characters, such as Gentium. -- DENelson83 10:24, 1 August 2006 (MST)
I have two such fonts installed... I think it's IE6 that's the problem. Wikipedia found a way around this, although I can't seem to get it to work here. See here for details. dooky 11:29, 1 August 2006 (MST)
Perhaps that's because this particular installation of MediaWiki does not have custom CSS support. Maybe WikiSysop can look into that. -- DENelson83 11:44, 1 August 2006 (MST)

Healing Phage[edit]

The blurb here states that the Starlights believed that it was impossible to heal Phage. I felt that, in the first episode of the arc, it was implied that they knew that they could be healed, but they didn't have the capability to do it... although Kakyuu possibly did. The dialogue goes something like:

  • Maker: Once people become Phage, they can't be saved.
  • Fighter: Right... except for... so go away!

It's tricky as it isn't stated outright, but given the parallels between Sailor Moon and Kakyuu, it seems quite likely to me that Kakyuu could heal Phage, and indeed probably demonstrated this power before she disppeared. dooky 06:11, 30 August 2006 (MST)

I didn't get that impression at all, personally.  Kerochan no Miko 10:45, 30 August 2006 (MST)
This is why I wanted to ask, because I often develop strange ideas about minor plot points ^_^ I feel that this is the sort of thing that would not be obvious when watching the series for the first time... but having seen more of how Fighter behaves in later episodes... I dunno, she often breaks off in the middle of something and starts brooding about Kakyuu, and in retrospect this looks like one of these times. dooky 11:13, 30 August 2006 (MST)
Okay, I went back and it looks like you were right on that - it appears that they were more surprised that anyone else could heal Phage, and they'd just thought nobody could do it but Kakyuu. Kerochan no Miko 11:43, 30 August 2006 (MST)

"Sailor?"[edit]

Since their names say "sailor" in them, and they wear some elements from the Sailor Fuku, shouldn't the "sailor senshi" category be added? (This unsigned comment was left by Supermariosailormoon, 8 January 2012)

I know this has been discussed to death before, but I don't see where at the moment. But suffice it to say, the fact that someone has "sailor" in their name does not make them an actual sailor senshi. The Phage are not Senshi, period, end of story. Kerochan no Miko 17:58, 9 January 2012 (MST)
