Gurio Sorano was a friend of Kyuusuke Sarashina and Chibiusa's classmate at Juuban Municipal Primary School.
Sorano made his first appearance in the manga side story "Beware of the Transfer Student," where he told Chibiusa about Lilica Hubert being the daughter of an ambassador and living at the embassy for U Country. Later he was dragged along with Kyuusuke, Chibiusa Tsukino, Momoko to the embassy, where they all ended up being saved from the vampires by Sailor Moon and Sailor V.
He also appeared in the story "Beware of Tanabata," where he first argued with Kyuusuke about what girls should be looking for in boys, then later noted that the wristwatches that the disguised Shokujo was selling from a street stall were suspicious.
In Act 27 of the manga and the corresponding episode of Sailor Moon Crystal, Sorano was one of the group of Chibiusa's classmates who visited Mugen C Park. He, along with Kyuusuke and another unnamed boy, were treated to juice by Mamoru while they waited for the girls to finish riding the roller coaster.

- Although he was usually referred to as "Sorano" in the manga and Crystal, his full name was given in Original Picture Collection Volume III. He shared a first name with Gurio Umino and a surname with Hikaru Sorano.
