Sailor Moon (series) refers to the Sailor Moon franchise which began life in 1991, in the form of Naoko Takeuchi's manga series Codename: Sailor V. Although the series did not feature Sailor Moon herself, it introduced a few of the characters - and many of the themes - that would be explored further in the Sailor Moon manga, anime, musicals, live-action series, and Crystal.
