Was a war between the Moon and the Earth (prior to Metalia's sudden attack) explicitly mentioned in the anime? Undoubtedly there was tension, but I always got the impression that the advanced Moon Kingdom was overrun so easily simply because they didn't really see the attack coming. I'm sure I read somewhere, SMULC maybe, that the reason the Prince and Princess weren't supposed to meet in was because the two worlds were at war. Someone who has immediate access too Memories Return! Usagi and Mamoru's Past, and/or Usagi's Awakening! I just watched the relevant episodes a couple weeks ago, and as I recall, Serenity and Endymion mentioned that they weren't supposed to be together because their kingdoms were at war, which is why Endymion was wearing a mask at the ball during which Metalia attacked. Unfortunately I can't watch the first season at the moment due to a dodgy DVD drive, but I've looked over my notes from my encyclopaedia, and this is what I have for the situation:

People from Earth were forbidden in the palace grounds, but as soon as Endymion arrives he tells Serenity that Metalia is about to attack. There's no mention - at least, that I can find - of a war prior to this, and Metalia's takeover of Earth must have been pretty rapid because it seems to be news to Serenity. Endymion weras a mask to the ball because he clearly isn't welcome in the palace anyway, but he actually does this after he's warned Serenity of the attack. I don't think we ever see much of Endymion and Serenity prior to Endymion coming to warn her of the attack, so it's hard to say what the political situation was up to that point. Miyuki Kanbe

It's like this: only Anza plays Princess Serenity during a flashback to the Moon Kingdom. In Chou Wakusei Death Vulcan, Miyuki as Sailor Moon gets to appear in the Princess Serenity dress in that way Sailor Moon does sometimes (like in, say, the Sailor Moon R movie). She's not credited as Princess Serenity like she currently is in the Death Vulcan article (then again, neither was Anza).--Dallbun 15:48, 17 April 2007 (MST)

Well, Sailor Moon should definitely have "Human" in the infobox - there was no Sailor Moon in the Moon Kingdom. For the others (and the Prince and Princess), something like "Lunar humanoid (original incarnation), human (reincarnation)". Except Pluto, maybe. - Sikon 08:47, 17 April 2007 (MST)

The reincarnation stuff is confusing, but as I see it, even if she occasionally manifests herself through Usagi in the present, Serenity is still her past life. There aren't two Princesses Serenities, right? So just "lunar humanoid" makes more sense to me. Silver (talk) 13:25, 6 May 2021 (EDT)
