Usagi, Ami, Rei, and Luna take a vacation in order to train, but the hotel they have booked is haunted by a strange phenomenon.
Summary[edit]
Usagi, Ami, Rei and Luna arrive at the ocean for special training, or as Usagi sees it, a holiday. Caught in a thunderstorm on the way to the pension they booked, they encounter a little girl, Sakiko. She leads them to the hotel, Pension Adams, which is owned by her father and staffed by three people dressed like horror movie extras. Usagi and Luna are scared of the staff, while Ami and Rei seem unfazed. Sakiko seems intrigued by the visitors, but in a secluded part of the building, her father warns her to stay away from them.
During dinner, the girls hear the sound of crying. They see a strange, transparent being in the room - although Rei believes it isn't a Youma. Meanwhile, Sakiko is placed under hypnosis by her father.
The following day, Usagi has all but forgotten about the previous night's excitement. Although the private beach is more private than she imagined (there is nobody else there at all), she still has fun with Ami and Rei. All the time they are there, Sakiko watches them.
Before dinner, Rei attempts to perform an exorcism in the dining room, despite suspecting that the entity is not really a ghost. As she finishes, she hears the staff planning something. Ami meets Sakiko outside the pension. She seems lonely, and Ami advises her to befriend Usagi. However, Sakiko's father sees her and takes her away, warning Ami that she should leave.
Sakiko protests, but her father insists she should stay away from outsiders. The girl is psychic, but is unable to fully harness the power unless she is under hypnosis. Her father resents the fact that his family's powers were never taken seriously, and hypnotises her again. Unbeknownst to him, Ami is observing this.
A frightened Usagi walks in on the staff, who are performing a bizarre ritual. Rei tells her that they are just normal humans, but that there is an inhuman presence in the building. The furniture begins to move by itself, but the manipulator turns out to actually be the hypnotised Sakiko, as her father instructs her to scare the visitors away. Ami confronts him just as Sakiko creates an immensely powerful ghost that rages out of control, attacking her father.
Usagi, Ami and Rei transform, but Sailor Moon's attacks are ineffective against the ghost. Sailor Mercury wakes Sakiko, but the ghost remains, powered by Sakiko's subconscious anger. But as the ghost targets her father, the girl uses her power to destroy it. It transpires that Sakiko's father used the pension's guests as test subjects for his daughter's powers, while the terrified staff were simply performing an exorcism ritual. Recognising her independence, Sakiko's father agrees to let her live as a normal girl.
Episode trivia[edit]
- This episode was the fourth to be left out of DiC's English dub. It did not feature any of the regular villains.
- Like episode 67 of the second season, "The Sea! An Island! Vacation! The Senshi Relax", this episode did not play into the main storyline of the season. It also had a similar structure to the title.
- In this episode Usagi was revealed to have a fear of lightning.
- Usagi's swimsuit from episode 17 reappeared in this episode.
- According to animation director Hisashi Kagawa, he named the train that appeared at the beginning of the episode after himself.
- In the German dub, Rei told the hotel staff that she was from Tokyo, though episode 146 implied that the anime was set in Germany. Also in the German dub, one of Ami's lines was said by Rei's voice actress.
- In the Spanish dub, Sakiko's scream when banishing the ghost and the Senshi's reaction used the original Japanese audio.
